Adelaide Day 2
Time to ride the bus to town. South Australia recognises WA seniors cards so our bus travel was free. Joys of being older! Our main aim was to see . . . can you guess? . . . . the rock collection at the Adelaide Museum.
After trialling a cheaper hiking pole that we had bought earlier in our trip, Trish was ready to move up to two poles. Dave now gets the cheaper pole while Trish has two new, slightly more expensive Austrian made hiking poles. She has found that even just the one had been taking a lot of pressure off of her gamy knee and also her hip. With the new poles in hand we headed for the Museum and spent our usual LONG time examining the exquisite rock collection. The fossil section with whole skeletons that had been opalized was a highlight for Dave. The beautiful opal colours flashing throughout these large fossils, truly amazing.
The rock section was laid out and presented in an excellent manner. There was even a piece if Cowell jade that looks exactly the same colour as the 5kg lump we bought and posted back home. Can't wait now to see our piece polished.
Finally it was time to head for the Art Gallery. Had a great time looking at all the displays and in particular the early Australian art.
Back to the bus for the trip home, but perhaps we could walk along the river trail that goes right past the caravan park. Decided to be lazy after a long day and take the bus ( concession fare now as it was outside the free time ) Told the driver we were going to Levi caravan park and off we went. Only a couple of km down the road the bus pulls up in the middle of the road and the driver shouts out "Levi caravan park" "BACK DOOR! BACK DOOR! BACK DOOR!" Without really thinking about it we jumped off only to realize we were many kms from the caravan park. The driver had got it wrong. Just happened we were right near the River Torrens walk path that we had thought about using earlier. Time to get some exercise and walk the 5km home. Trish son had the two hiking poles in action and occasionally exclaiming "this is cheating" as she sped along.
Because her eyes are "painted on" and she doesn't see everything, she was heading straight for a large snake on the path while I called to her to look. Took a while to get her to look in the right direction but finally she saw the snake. We watched it for a while then the click of the camera sent it slithering off into the grass. The walk back was very nice and perhaps was meant to be.
Life is not too bad without power as I have a system where I can plug our LED tent light into the motorbike.
