Weŕe now having fun in Buenos Aires, although it took quite a while to get settled.
As I said in my last blog entry the journey from San Francisco to Buenos Aires was a long one. We left the hostel in San Francisco at 9.30pm on Monday evening and after stopping in El Salvador and Lima, we got to Buenos AIres at 5.00 am on Wednesday. We only managed a couple of hours of sleep on the planes because on Taca airlines the seats are really uncomfortable with not much leg room. We had planned to get a bus from the airport to the hostel however we only had 100 peso notes (about 16 pounds) and nowhere would give us the change we needed. In the end we got a taxi which in the long run was probably for the best because we would have never found the hostel.
When we got to the hostel "Portal del sur" we were told that our room wouldn be ready until 2pm so we would have to wait for 8 hours. We basically collapsed on the sofas in the centre of the hostel and dozed. We finally got into the room at 1pm and spent the rest of the day taking short naps and exploring the few blocks near the hostel. We ate out at a really cool restaurant and we had lots of great food and it was quite cheap - about 12 pounds for 2 starters, main courses and drinks. We slept well that night.
The following day we went to the reception to extend our booking at the hostel. We had only booked one night in advance so that if we didn like it we could find somewhere else. Unfortunately they were totally booked out for the next week so we had to find somewhere else. There are lots of hostels around the centre of Buenos AIres so it didn take us long. We ultimately found a much nicer hostel for around the same price. These things tend to work out for the best! We spent the rest of the day going around the huge shopping district. That evening we spent back at the hostel getting to know our room mate and still recovering from our long journey.
Weŕe going to take it easy here in Buenos Aires. Weŕe in a nice city with no deadlines for moving on. Thereś lots to do here so weŕe very happy just exploring at our own pace.
Iḿ not going to be able to put any photos on Flickr for a while since the computers are a bit strange here, so youĺl have to wait until I get back until you can see Argentina.
