So you leave Portland, and you cross over to Washington straight away. No signs or anything, Portland is literally on the border between the two. So Nate wanted to visit this Volcano called Mount St Helens, that had erupted in 1980 and caused a sensation, that I hadn’t even heard of.. And I have an American history degree.. interesting hey! Anyhow the national park was really stunning, stunning in the fact that we were in the depths of winter and we couldn’t see a foot in front of us. And to add insult to injury it was freezing! On the positive, the journey was very interesting, and the fog on the mountain looked like a ghostly picture. We got to the visitors center, and we could just see the Volcano, its an awesome sight. We also watched a film on the eruption, and it was huge. The blast incinerated all the trees, boiled lakes, and ash was found all the way from Seattle to Portland. The history behind it, and the stories I got to read, as well as the pictures were amazing. I have never been to a Volcanic sight like this before, was really cool. It was unfortunate that the weather didn’t clear up, but hey there was nothing we could do there. I was missing my Fiji days though, those good old hot days with Lindsay, Tom, James and the gang. I miss them all lots. From Mt St Helens we headed straight to Seattle, the weather really was against us so there was no point in spending any more time in the wild. So entering Seattle, what a gorgeous night, picture perfect for the cityscape. I remembered everything about this place, and was determined to do everything I missed last time and the bonus, we have a car for a few more nights. We were staying at my favorite hostel the HI in Seattle. Its awesome, free breakfast, helpful staff, TV room with movies, and really good clean nice rooms. So happy to be back! Anyhow we spent the night in a Jazz bar in downtown which was cool. And we got foot on the way home for $3, I love this city.
