31st Dec - Bangkok is crazy with loads to take in, We arrived new years eve at 5pm and were immediatly blased with the 35 degrees of evening heat. Our hotel is a 5 min walk from the Ko Shan Road backpackers district so we decided to take a stroll and find a bar for our first beer. A 50 THB (1 quid) 1 litre beer later we carried on trying to dodge tut tuts and mopeds that tend to ignore crossing and red lights where we found a tut tut (You tube them!) that would take us to where the new year celebrations were outside the Central World shopping centre. After a few beers, some noodles and the fireworks we were shattered so decided to head back to the hotel.
1st Jan - Waking up without a hangover helped which meant we could take a stoll to the nearest sky train station where we got a a one day travel pass costing about a quid (Yes a quid!!!) to go and investigate some of the city. It didn't take long to find a market and shops so we had a stroll, we came across a place where you can can have a foot massage by basically sticking your feet in a tank of fish who suck the dead skin off (It took them a While!) The feeling is quite strange and it was all too much for Danny whospent much of the time screaming like a big girl!
We went out for quiet dinner and drinks that night under we came across a bar that did buckets of vodka and red bull where quiet turned into walking back at 5am to our hotel. The walk normally takes 5 mins but in our drunken state we passed a stray dog dressed as superman (No we hadn't drunk any Thai whiskey or taken any drugs!) that I decided to attempt to stroke. Well the dog was obvisouly angry that someone had dressed him up he had a bite add my hand that meant I had a bleeding finger that went via a 7/11 store for some alcohol solution (to clean any germs etc) we thought we better go to the hospital! Thai hospitals you would imagine to be poor were very good and I was straight in and out in 30mins however after an injection and some anti biotics that cost me 40 quid! We finally got back at 7am where we went straighht to breakfast then bed!
2nd Jan - After a late lye in we went to a place of worship called the golden mountain (Golden and on a hill!!!) then went for drinks then the day was over!
3rd Jan - This was our best day so far! We did a day trip to a floating market, to a tiger temple, saw a snake show and the bridge over the river Kwai. will put some pics on soon.
We are now just sat in our hotel lobby waiting to board our 14 hour train journey to Chaing Mai (Northern Thailand).....
More to follow.... take care
