Phnom Penh
After Don Det, my next stop was Phnom Penh in Cambodia & Brad was also going so we travelled together on Longtail Boat, Mini Bus to Cambodia Border Crossing for our Visa's then on another Minibus for 6 Hours. The Minibus was absolutely packed so not really a comfy journey but we had Video's to watch on the iPod.
We left Katrina & Anthony at Don Det as they were travelling to Vietnam the next day. Sheila, Katrina, Tyson & Ferrer were also going to Cambodia but a few days later.
We decided that we were staying on the Lakeside where all the Backpakers stay as it was a nice location in the centre, for Sunrise / Sunset & cheap prices. We stayed at #9 Guesthouse which was recommended & had a room next to the lake with free Pool, Sky, Bar / Restaurant etc the only bad thing was the Bugs & Mosquitoes but we had sprays & nets. It was $5 per room per night but the best thing was that they only charged us $5 for two nights - haha......& we didnt say anything. They should be more organised!!
The only thing about this place is that you get loads of hasstle from Tuk Tuk Drivers / Children trying to sell you books / bracelets etc but all the time & it does your head in after a while.
Whilst here we visited the National Museum which was full of statues of Buddah's from 8th / 9th / 10th Century & it has a really nice Courtyard which is worth visiting. (I sound so boring here - photo's for the Parents - haha).
We also went to the Royal Palace which is supposed to take most of the day but we had enough after about 30 mins because we were hungry & headed to the Markets. We got talking to Kat from Guisborough & Lisa from Devon on the way to the Markets so we went out with them on the evening's; played Pool, Jenga, had food & beers.
We also went to the Tuol Sleng Museum & Killing Fields of Choeung Ek the day after which was depressing seeing 17,000 skulls, prison, tourcher chamber & the fields of the mass graves they were killed by the Khmer Rouge between 1975 - 1978. After coming out of the Museum we bumped into Sheila & Katrina from Switzerland so that cheared us up & we arranged to meet them in Siam Reap the next day.
We decided after the dull day to go to the Most Expensive Hotel in PP for a swim, nice shower etc so we knicked into the Raffles Hotel through the Courtyard. This Hotel is massive & is $400 - $2000 per night per person so it was nice until we got shot out because they wanted $15 for the afternoon to just swim so we were told to leave but sneakerly got a wicked shower / scrub / shave etc - luxury when ya a backpacker - haha.
On the last night we joined the 3 Girls we travelled on the Bus from Don Det to Cambodia; Melony, Sarah & Christine & Alex from Australia. Alex invited us to his Balcony for some Guitar Action so we just had a few Beers & Smoke & Brad & Alex were just Jaming until daft O Clock in the morning.....it was class. After a while we were talking absolute tripe. Then we made up a song about the Cocunut Cow - don't ask but it was hilarious!! One of the lads is gunna put it on you tube so if I get a copy I will share with you.
Well going to log off cos I have to buy my ticket for tomoz to Thailand to meet Tom & Bella for our Birthdays on 9th December in Ko Pangyang.
