Finally we all arrive safely in KK after each experiencing our own mini adventures getting here! Aneliese, Paddy, Andy, Sidra and Fiona set off from London together on the 22nd June , Allan also sets off on 22nd and will fill you in on his crazy travel experience on the way here, and Kirsty left on 20th June having an 'interesting' 14 hour stop over in Dubai airport on the way. We were all relived to see each other at KK airport seeing as we had had little communication about where to meet and when. We all met at 6pm minus an Allan. We knew his flight had arrived much earlier in the day but we also knew he had no idea which hostel I had booked us in to! So we arrived at North Borneo Cabin with the hope or finding him and thankfully he was there waiting- looking a bit worn, but alive! He managed to get a bus into KK and visit a couple of hostels before phoning around the rest to find us! Legend. I was feeling a bit shell shocked being back in KK after 2 years of being away and was getting overly excited at seeing anything Malaysian (which was a lot!) I visited my old haunt, Little Italy and was so happy to see familiar faces that recognised me. The waitors were so chuffed to hear we were visiting again. I also visited the 'tatoo boys'- was awesome to see them again too. We all checked in to our room, had a good old natter before heading to Little Italy for our first meal. It was my birthday so Winston (the boss) was so awesome and brought out a birthday cake for me at the end of the meal- beamer! We then headed to 'Q bar' which used to be an awesome gay hotspot with really nice he-she waitors but instead they were a bit grumpy but it was still a really nice place! Since it was my bday we tried to find a place to go party. We met a german guy in the hostel called Mark who we brought with us to try to find a bar and he wanted to find somewhere to watch the footy that night. We went to another of my fave places- BB cafe, but it was pretty empty then hopped in a taxi to go to a club- Razmataz- but again, it was dead. So back we went to KK for a 'reasonably' early night. Next day some of the team slept in while I gave the others a wee tour of KK. We went round Wisma Merderka (the mall) then to the handicraft market. Aneliese and I were getting really hot in the midday sun so we tok refuge in the Hyatts amazing café and the boys had icecream while we shared some flatbread. We then met the others and everyone set off to ManukanIsland on the boat while I met up with an old friend from my gap year, Joyce. Was just amazing seeing her again and we went for lunch (to Little Italy of course!) and went for a wee shop together. I gave her some Eva Cassidy and Katie Melua CDs cause she loves singing and playing guitar. She leaves for Kuala Lumpur in a few days to study music at University so I was really lucky to see her before she left. We did a bit of shopping and went to the Chinese supermarket cause she told me that ever since I gave her cheese on my gap year shes been begging her mum to buy her some when they go food shopping. So I got her a big block of Danish blue and smoked Dutch cheese. She then had to head off home. I met up with the others who had had a fab time on the beach and caught a bit of sun. We all got showered and set of for another favourite for dinner- Fatt Kee Chinese restaurant. The team loved it and loved the price just as much! The crazy Chinese lady that runs the place was as hilarious as ever but I can honestly say she seems to have become fluent in English in the past 2 years so that's fab. We then ll headed for the Chinese Supermarket again and bought about 4 bottles of local Rice Wine (25 and 40% stuff!) We also got some fruit juice to wash it down and some snacks to take to Uncle Tans the next day. It was really funny cause on the way up the stairs to the booze bit of the shop there was a bit sign saying "Cigarettes and Alcohol- a sign of Prestige"- needless to say we got plenty of pics of us taken holding up our rice wine next to the sign! Once we got back to NBC we met mark and set up a wee den upstairs around the table. E took the liberty of getting a big bowl and lots of mugs and sprinkled playing cards over the table to hava good game of ring of fire. I got the music on the go with the awesome wee speaker I got in Singapore. It's the size of a small lime and it makes so much noise yet its really clear. We were getting really stuck into the game (especially Andy) when we were told to keep the noise down a bit- oops so we decided to pack it in and get packed for the following day. We were due to leave for the airport to get our flight to the east coast at 5.30am and we only started packing at 12.30am. Needless to say we did not get much sleep. We finally finished packing at around 1.30am and Andy decided to polish off the rice wine to 'help him sleep'! I was on the phone for a further hour so in total we must have got a couple of hours sleep. Three of us set alarms to get up the next morning and every single alarm managed to fail! Aneliese's phone was still on british time, mine managed to hop back an hour overnight and Sidras just didn't go off! So it was all thanks to Mark (the german guy) coming back into the dorm at 5.15am after he had watched his german footie match shouting 'We won!' that we actually got up in time! Our taxi was booked for 5.30am so we had 15mins so all shower and get ready to go- wasa bit mental! Thank goodness we all made it in time (although Andy was a teeny bit worse for wear to say the least!) and we got on our 7am flight.
