Day 74- 20 September
GHD-
We wake up at Monkey Mia which is a really pretty beach, the water is so clear and the sand is so white and has rows of beautiful shells on the waters edge. We head down to the beach to watch the dolphins being fed, we watched 3 people feed a dolphin called Puck. The park ranger told us lots about the dolphins and how when they first started feeding the dolphins only 2 out of 17 calfs survived because the calfs need to learn how to catch fish but because the calfs mums were getting fish fed to them the calfs never learnt how to catch fish so eventually they died of starvation. So now they were only allowed to feed five dolphins and they were only full grown girls and they only feed them 3 times everyday, before lunch. After seeing one feed we head back to the van and Olivia, Matilda and I watched a movie while Mum and Dad went for a walk. They saw a turtle right up close on the jetty. When they get back we all head down to the beach, Mum, Olivia and Matilda went to an art expedition. I go to hire Dad a kayak so he can TRY and catch a fish (which is highly unlikely for that to happen!!) While I wait for Dad to take the kayak I just paddle around the bay which is really beautiful and the water is so clear that you can see the bottom, then I go watch the dolphins chase away the pelicans who are try to steal the dolphins food. After a little while Dad and I paddle out to catch some dinner. But Dad didn't catch anything again and I started to get really, really, really bored so I made up a song " I am in a little blue boat in the middle of the ocean" after singing that with no other words we spotted a pod of dolphins sooooo cool, and now I have more lyrics "I am In a little blue boat in the middle of the ocean, just saw a dolphin and there is a cormerant over there." When we can only just see the beach and have no fish we head back, which I am not too upset about... I mean I think dad is, I think he misses my beautiful singing! I go get some lunch then head down to the beach to catch some rays with my coconut sunblock on and I spend the rest of the day laying in the sun reading my book. When the sun went down I meet these people cleaning their fish and they gave me some fish for dinner but we were already going out so we froze it for tomorrow's dinner. We left for dinner to the monkey bar, then we watched a movie which I choose and then we went to bed!

Monkey Mia
"Mia" aboriginal word for "home/camp/resting place"
No one really knows where Monkey came from
1. In 1834 a ship named "Monkey" was dispatched from Fremantle in search of a shipwreck
2. Malay pearlers who camped in the area had monkeys
3 Pastoralists farmed sheep and goats here in the early days. 'Monkey' is thought to be a colloquialism for sheep.
