Richard Fogg - 80 Years Around the World
Another theme this trip was characterised by was travel. We needed to cover a lot of ground therefore wake-up calls before 6am were the norm. Travel took the form of public bus, taxi, boat or train and was alwasy uncomfortable and for 4-8 hour stretches. This compounded the issue of a lack of toilets en route. When they were available (which was infrequently) they were discusting and 'squat' toilets. When toilets were not available you just had to find a bush or hold it!
For your viewing pleasure here is a picture of bull-bars on the *back* of a car (well I thought it was interesting). If you are thinking Varanasi boarder control is rather short on interesting anecdotes or inspiring visual images - you would be right.
