We have come to the end of our Tucan tour. It has been an extremely hectic but rewarding week. Our first two days in Lima were a bit of an eye opener, a sprawling mass of humanity set to a sound track of constant car hooters.
From there we headed into the Jungle which was beyond description. A two hour boat ride up river took us to our base came complete with swimming pool, bar and wild parrots. From there we took a number of walks into the deep jungle. We fed monkeys, paddled in wooden canoes in swamps looking for and finding Cayman and Turtle.
From the Jungle we headed to Cuzco to explore the land of the Incas. A two day trip through the Sacred Valley of the Incas culminated in Machu Picchu. The drive up to Machu Picchu left us breathless, dramatic mountainous Jungle that we could only of dreamed of. Machu Picchu itself was all it could have been and more.
No time to rest, Lake Titicaca ahead. An adrenalin fueled ride on a Tuktuk(bicycle with two seats in front and rider behind) took us to the lake shores. We visited Uros Island, one of hundreds of small reed island floating in the middle of the lake on which large families live. Then to Amantani Island to spend a night with a local family. Very strange night with no common language, lot of hand gestures and manic nodding and laughing. Next day Taquila Island, amazing views.
A very impressive bus ride including a bizzare and dangerous ferry crossing lead us to La Paz. Much like Lima but much more scarry.
Tommorow we fly to Santiago. No guide, no help, just us. We are really looking forward to the next stage.
All for now
Cheers
Will post more photos when we find a place with faster internet speed.
