Hong Kong! What a vibrant city. Although a regular business traveller here, there is always a new experience on offer. The crowds never seem to end but the people are friendly and polite.
Flying overnight from Australia works best for me as I sleep 5-6 hours and arrive refreshed and ready for the day ahead. The airport offers a lounge with shower facilities which are available at very reasonable walk up rates. The airport express is very comfortable and not too expensive but another still cheaper option is a taxi to the local train at Tung Chung. It's cheaper again and doesn't take much longer even including the taxi.
My new HKIA (HK international airport) frequent visitor card works a treat and I by-pass an hour long queue. Yippee! Three trips to HKIA in one year qualifies you to apply for the card. Well worth the effort if a regular to HK.
The Excelsior Hotel in Causeway Bay is my home for 4 nights this trip. Pretty central and easy to get around with lots of shops (and people, of course!). I shouted myself a massage at the hotel and it was great. Very relaxed and got sucked into buying massage oil and de-stress cream.
A walk to nearby racetrack on Saturday morning reveals a hive of sporting activities with mostly ex-pats children mixing it up over rugby or soccer. My kids are past all that and I had forgotten the ugly sporting parents but they were there in full force. ( settle down mum they are only 10 years old!!!). The track grandstands provide a colosseum type atmosphere perhaps even with some lions!
Hong Kong can be hot this time of year but surprisingly cool in January and Feb on my last trip. Today it's very warm so I make use of the tram to ease the walk back.
Hong Kong markets are all worth a look for usual and unusual nicknacks but I like the jade market for the fresh water pearls. They work a treat for the better half.
A special treat this time was to the Ozone bar on level 117 ( or somewhere close to that) in Kowloon. The highest bar in the world, they say, and great views make It worth the effort. The blackberry mojito was ok but should have joined my colleagues who preferred a glass of Billecart champagne. The food looked great but would have interfered with the drink.
So much to see and do in Hong Kong when you know where to go.
