Blog Day 24 Mon 30th May 2011
Today we have power back ‘hooray’ so its shower, pack, breakfast & then off for a hike through to The Wild Side. It’s called this because it’s not long been found, it isn’t a hike that you get a map for, but apparently is easy & will only take about 30mins to reach the view that you are aiming for, but about 5mins in we have to cross through a ‘small’ stream, now Bear Grylls would have just walked through it but the ground looks loose around it, it’s a tad deep & were only 5mins in & don’t fancy doing the rest of the walk with wet shoes & feet. After carefully stepping on marsh & log Dan makes it across pretty dry, Trish however steps straight into it after about 2 seconds!!
After successfully managing to reach our destination without any more wet hitches the view we see is amazing, once we’d returned back to the hostel however we find out that if we had taken a left turning we would’ve reached a view of rock pools & been able to get to a small almost untouched beach though this would have meant a bit of slippery climb anyway, nevertheless the view we found was rewarding enough. After this we book the shuttle to head into the town, an hour later we are still waiting & after 2 phone calls & still no taxi a guy offers to drop us into town. We have a wander around, enjoy a gorgeous pizza at a place we fail to remember the name of & then go to do some food shopping. This activity ends up taking us about 2 hours, we are spending too much money eating out all the time, but try shopping when you only have the most basic of facilities at a hostel & all the unhealthy food is far more tempting. We do get some ideas though & are surprised by how little it comes too, I guess compared to eating out anyway!
The Baz Bus picks us up & we head onto Jeffrey’s Bay. On phoning the hostel we try out our ‘inspection trip’ line. The manager tells us that we are more than welcome to stay & that he will sort us out when we get there. It takes a good 3 hours to get there & we pass over Bloukrans Bridge (The Worlds Highest Bungee Bridge-216m to be exact) which we breathe sighs of relief at not attempting, there’s no way in hell that we would have done it, it’s a long way down!
We reach Island Vibe & even though it’s dark you can tell that the views are going to be amazing in the morning, especially as we get put into a gorgeous Double en-suite room which happens to have the most amazing view of the beach. Happy days!
