Blog Day 156 Sun 9th October 2011
So today sees a certain someone waking up with a hangover, claiming that the JD & cokes were just going down to well. Nothing that can't be cured with a nice cold shower & the promise of a McDonald's breakfast. McDonalds are celebrating their 40th year in Australia & to celebrate have brought out a selection of new menu items. On a big advertising board we see the new 'Breakfast McMuffin'. It consists of a muffin, egg, sausage, bacon, hash brown & bbq sauce. And let me tell you it is the ultimate McMuffin and we will definatly be treating ourselves to this again in the very near future.
Once our bellies are satisfied & Dan has pooped a few ibuprofens we fill up with fuel & head out onto the open road for the longest journey in the camper so far.
On Tuesday we are booked onto a Fraser Island tour, which means we need to be in Hervey Bay by tomorrow evening for the pre tour briefing. With a second day of rugby kinking off at 3pm there is no way we are going to get all that way in one day. Sean and Liam are heading the same way and say they will txt us when they stop, they are about an hour ahead of us so hopefully we will make it to them by Kick Off!
As we are driving along we pass some rather randomly named creeks yet again. Just a few rather inventive ones that we came across were breakfast creek, ginger beer creek, waistcoat creek & little pig creek. We think they may have run out of ideas for the next 2 as they came up with Goodbye creek & little Goodbye creek. We also past a Digareedoo lagoon & a banister bog!
Another thing that we witness during this drive was the bush fires. It was sad to see the sheer devastation & the vast area that these fires have covered in the past. We also witnessed a controlled bush fire right on the side of the road. Even thought it was controlled the heat and the smoke still made driving past it quite scary.
We make it to a place called Rockhampton bang on 3pm & meet Sean & Liam in a bar to watch Australia vs South Africa then New Zealand vs Argentina. We are once again seated in our Stormers & Springbok shirts hoping that S.A can pull in a win. This doesn't happen, seems this world cup is anyone's game.
Special Message Alert:
Happy Birthday Danielle, though this may be a bit late by the time we get this blog up. However because its Danielle's birthday & Trish isn't there to celebrate with her, she decides to give her a surprise phone call, & I think she was certainly very surprised. After being away for just over 5 months now it was really nice to talk in person.
After the second game finished with a New Zealand win we say our goodbyes to the boys & head back onto the road to find a rest area for the night.
