Blog Day 111-114 Thurs 25th Sun 28th August 2011
After deciding that Chinatown is a bit of a dump we move to a hotel at the end of Bugis Bintang. The price is a steal on Agoda and seeing as it's nearer to the LRT station & shopping malls the decision is a no brainer. Kuala Lumpur is really such an easy place to get around, you have to prepare yourself for a lot of walking that's for sure but if you want to venture further the LRT system is so easy & really quite cheap too.
So this makes the next few days pretty easy, as usual we are weeks behind on the blog again, so the next 4 days basically consist of a blur of:
McDonald's for lunch every day, well it is a 12-3pm lunchtime saver menu, 2 chicken burgers, 2 fries & 2 sprites for just £2.58 now you can't complain about that even if it is McDonalds!
We find a hawker center one evening serving up mostly Chinese food, Trish has been recommended the Lemon chicken by the lovely Hayley so she goes with that & it doesn't disappoint, Dan goes with the simple chicken in ginger & spring onion which is equally as nice, we also try some recommended local beer. We were under the impression that this would be a cheap meal as it was part of a hawker center, we were very hungry at the time & didn't even ask prices & it wasn't until we got the bill that we realized it would have been cheaper to have had a McDonald's again today, but never mind live & learn!
After this disastrous discovery the rest of the evenings here consist of gourmet Pot noodle's in a variety of wonderful flavors. Only one word can describe them ………… CHEAP!
One evening we head to see the Petronas towers, it's about a 20min walk away, fortunately finding them is easy as they are so bloody huge. Standing underneath them you get a totally different perspective, the pictures just don't do the sheer height justice. We get some early evening pictures then Trish films Dan doing some magic, after about 10 takes we get a good one then get some night pictures of the towers, they look so amazing all lit up. We decide that we will be going back the next day to get some daytime pictures. During the day visit we find a park around the back of it which is just lovely, & another good spot to film some more of tricks.
During one of the days whilst wandering around one of the many huge shopping malls we pick up a few postcards & envelopes so that we can update some of you guys personally at home, this particular day it is pouring with rain so we get more than slightly drenched when walking back to the hotel.
The afternoons all roll into one really, we set up camp in Starbucks and attack the blogs, and various postcards. The staff are really cool in here and we have all the time we want, as you can charge the computer. Though we have become slightly hooked, Trish on the Latte & Dan on a Chocolate cream chip milkshake drink that is topped off with a mountain of squirty cream…so yummy!
The Starbuck is strategically situated right outside a magic shop and while Trish is uploading the blogs Dan seizes the opportunity to pop in say hello and do a few tricks, with strict order not to buy anything!
We discover that another thing that is cheap out here is the cinema, in comparison to home anyway. 2 tickets, a large drink & popcorn work out to about R20 (£4.20). We used up one evening by going to see Horrible Bosses which was a great film.
We knew that while we were in KL we wanted to set aside a few days to catch up on the blog etc. & KL really was the perfect place to do this. There are tours available to go to places like the Botanic gardens & Batu caves, & they can be reached by train easily but it's still an expense, our time was used as we wanted to use it, after all we are away for a whole year & already have done some hugely amazing things.
