Hey Everybody! We have an important announcement to make...We are in ITALIA!! We made it to the motherland:) After a beautiful train ride through the Swiss Alps and the mountains in N. Italy, we arrived at our hotel.
The day started off with some noisy and rude asian chicks. They decided to get dressed and ready in the room, as opposed to the shower rooms downstairs. And then on top of them making noises, the kid sleeping in the bunk behind Danny was a screamer with turrets. He was some guy traveling by himself, looked 15, and was a bit "kooky", as we came to assess. But other than our involuntary morning call, we checked out of our hostel without a problem. We headed to the Hauptbahnhof ( train station) and alas, our train arrived.
Before we even boarded the train this morning, we were extremely excited for this ride because, for one, we had reserved our seats in a compartment, and two, we were about to see one of the world's most amazing mountain ranges. Well, Trenitalia, the train name, is not like Deutschebahn, the one train we've grown to love. Oh no. This train was out to get us. Our wagen assignment was incorrect to begin with. After some sprinting up and down the platform, Danny and Leigh put their two brains together and figured out which wagen they were seated in. Somewhat relieved, they thought they had the comparament at least with 2 other people. Wrong. It was full. And to make things worse, there was a guy sitting in one of our assigned seats. We said nice try.
After about an hour of cramped sitting, some room opened up when one of the passengers got off at the second stop. ( Did we mention the 7 hour ride was due in part to the 5 million stops along the way?...) It was around this time however that the mountains started to come into view. And let me tell you guys, words cannot express how awe-struck we were when we rode through. Simply beautiful. Danny took a million pictures, so never fear, they will be posted soon! The one lady that rode in the cabin with us was heading to Innsbruck, Austria and she spoke English so she was giving us a little history of the region as we passed some cool sights! After some time, Leigh made the mistake of going to the restroom. All she found was a toilet on top of a hole in the floor. She said it felt somewhat liberating to stick her butt out of a high speed train.
After seeing some of the most beautiful landscape and little unknown towns south of Munchen, we arrived in Venice! We had to get off at the second to last station in Venice because our hotel is located on the mainland of Italy, not the cluster of islands that are so famously known. (it was the cheapest we could find:( And after one short bus trip, we checked into our hotel. It is quite nice, located in a residential area. The smell of some flowers overwhelm the area, giving it a nice atmosphere here. In the morning, we are taking a shuttle from our place to the islands of Venice, where our trip begins the sightseeing:) We're already in love with te place though! And again, we will post the pictures asap! Until our next post . . . Ciao:)
PS: we plan on gaining weight in Italy, surrounded by all this authentic Italian food!!
