This is yesterday's blog that we never got around to...sorry! After our early morning blog we set out to find some of the main attractions here in Brussels. Looking on our map we realized that there wasn't too much...perhaps Brussels is just a better place to experience than to see. We walked around a bit...through the sea food restaurant district right behind our hotel (there must have been 50 or 60 restaurants in this one little area and all of them served sea food!!) Once we finally made it out of there...after everyone standing outside their restaurant tried to get us to come in...we made our way over to the Mannekan-pis (the famous statue of the little boy peeing.) It was small! The statue we mean. It wasn't quite what we expected! In this area, Leigh got cold so she bought a nice hoodie and Danny a cool tee-shirt that said Brussels on it! After our brief shopping we made our way back to the Grand Place where a game of hand-ball was going on...at least that is what we thought it was...we had never seen this before so we watched for a bit.
As we watched hand-ball we grew hungry, but not hungry enough to go to a restaurant yet....so we decided to go to one of the many waffle vendors...chocolate covered waffles are amazing!!!! It just so happened that there was the beer store right next door so Danny had to buy a beer that he hadn't tried yet. (Dark...but good!) After a few more minutes of walking and an empty beer, we decided to head back to the food district...Kevin you're right, the Mussels were awesome!! We were convinced to come into one of the restaurants becuase they offered us free drinks if we diid...the food was very good too. We asked for the lunch menu (they only gave us the menu with 25 euro dishes on it) because it was 12.50 for 3 courses!! After lunch we came back to the hotel for a bit and watched some of the Wimbeldon Championship between Federer and Nadal...we both fell asleep...but Leigh wanted Nadal to win and Danny obviously rooting against her chose Federer....we don't know who won though. After the brief nap we headed out for our night at Delerium.
We heard that you could pay a certain price and taste as many beers as you wanted...but that was wrong, we had to pay for every drink we had. It was very good though. The beers here are A LOT stronger than back in the States!! Every beer Danny drank was equal to 2 and sometimes 3 beers back home. Leigh stuck to the floris beers...fruit flavored! Her excuse is that she's a girl so she can like fruity beer...fair enough! Altogether we each had 6 drinks (all different) then headed back to the hotel for a nice snooze! (Danny bought a drink that came with its own mug...so he'll be bringing it back (if he doesn't break it before we get back). On our way back from the bar, we stopped by another waffle shop but this time we had a scoop of chocolate ice cream on top!! FANTASTIC combo!!
We woke up early this morning, since check out is at 11, and finally got the internet in the hotel to work! As soon as we leave the hotel we are heading straight for the train station so we can go to Amsterdam!!! We will be there for 2 nights before we head back down to Paris. So far we think that Brussels has been one of the top 3 cities that we have visited. (We wish we had more time here because we didn't expect Brussels to be so cool). Danny wants to try all the different (2000) beers and Leigh wants to try all the different chocolates!!! Oh well...we'll let everyone know how Amsterdam is once we get there!! Have a fun day...because we will!!:)
