Danny's Travels
right our trip to oz to date is not quite going to plan. we received a fax in bali saying our hotel transfer to the airport would be 2 hours earlier than was originally planned as our flight had been cancelled and we would be put on a flight 2 hours prior - ideal we thought we get to reach oz sooner than expected. however, quite a big however may i add, on arrival at the airport we discover we are not flying to darwin (4hour flight) but to sydney (8hours - south coast as oppose to the north, for those whose geography on oz is not great), from here we have a transfer to darwin (back the same way for 4hours) but only some 12 hours after our arrival at sydney. we kick up a bit of a fuss on arrival and get put up in a hotel (hilton, its pretty nice). we then return back to the airport for our evening flight - here's where it gets crazy!!!!!!!!
we board the plane and take off within 20mins into the flight a young guy 30ish stacked may i add, heading to the toilet faints with a massive thud - he becomes in a real bad way and there is a request for a doctor on the plane (don't panic i didn't put my hand up - hadn't had a drink at this point - a few beers i can be the pilot!!!!!!)anyway turns out this fella is in a real bad way, i volunteer my help and help carry this guy along with the oxygen etc behind a curtain out of sight. quite a lot of commotion at this point, and the heart starting thingy gets bought to the back.thought he was a goner, makes you put things in perspective you can be the healthiest person in the world but when your times up your times up!!!! no one really knows what happening at this point but after about 2hours he begins to "respond to treatment" captains quote.then with an hour to go an old lady, about 80 faints, they're dropping like flies, if you ask me the old lady was just attention seeking - ha ha ha!!!!!- chris makes some joke about a virus on the plane - i give a faint chuckle but keep thinking of hurley in lost!!!!!
as we begin to land the other guy that also helped out, gives up his seat to the fella that fainted and i look after him as we land - he is fully conscious and chatty at this point - been to visit some friends in sydney over the weekend - hmmmmmm!!!!!he has no recollection of what happened and is annoyed they want him to go to hospital - i didn't mention how bad he was or that it is more serious than just fainting (as the doctor had informed us). me and chris receive a free bottle of wine for our help - and a mention by the captain (chris' role in the whole event was of course essential it was mainly concerned with watching the tv screen and check no one changed the program mid flight and distress the customers even more - ha ha ha!!!!)
so we arrive in darwin, a day late may i add - it is our first full day here and so far i have managed to spend about $300 (100ish pound )mainly on food but have a phone too (that was 50) - woo-hooo!!!!! - its more expensive than england here, around $50 (25 pound alone) was spent on food yesterday afternoon at the airport - what can i say when i gotta eat i gotta eat!!!!!chris has eaten some form of Maccy D's, BK etc in 7 out of the last 8 days (8 out of the last 9 if you count a subway today) accommodation is bout 10pound a night in a dorm - so budget is pretty much wrecked before the day has started although every traveler we've spoken to has warned us of the expenses!!!!!!!
i ought to also add that i have also discovered reckers has done 2 and a half clothe washes (the half being a quick rinse in a sink) since arriving nearly 7 weeks ago - and he only wears 2 pairs of boxers, he just rotates - that's awesome he is taking to traveling like a duck to water!!!!!!
missing everyone - (7months in counting)
