Danny's Travels
after arriving in picton in the south island we head down the west coast to nelson where we spend a drunk night and then onto poo bar, yes that's right poo bar, a bar run by an 89 year old ex all black where we, the bus has a mass fancy dress party (i was elated poor chris was mortified) it was only on route we discovered the men were to dress as girls and the girls dress in bin bags (i think this may have been a perverted preference of our driver, as previous groups had toga parties and dressed as cowboys and indians etc - he was a strange one s***worth you would have loved him). as you can imagine the numerous dressing up occasions with the uni rugby club normally as a female held me in good stead, my leotard is very fetching i am sure you will agree!!!!as for the mother Theresa look-a-like (chris) he couldn't get out of his outfit quick enough - ha ha!!!!!!!
from poo bar we headed onto franz josef where we climbed the franz josef glacier and as expected it was awesome!!!!!from the glacier we head to the adventure capital of new zealand queenstown. queenstown was amazing numerous activities in the day and plenty of partying at night, my kind of place!!!!!!it was here following numerous sleepless nights that i hoped i may conquer my fear of heights by completing a bungy, but not just any bungy the nevis highwire 134m drop , it doesn't sound all that high but the height of the statue of liberty is only 2/3 of the drop - it's pretty high, infacti believe it is now the largest in the world as the one in south africa shut down because someone died - (fills you with confidence does't it?)!!!!!i bricked one for the sky dive and this was a whole new level and so many people who plan to do it drop out at the last min usually on the ledge, i still have no idea how i managed it but i somehow did, i don't remember any of it and i will never ever ever ever do it again, i didn't enjoy it for obvious reasons but i did it and the dvd is hilarious!!!!also in queenstown we got a 3day ski pass, 2 days of skiing and then on the third we attempted to teach ourselves snowboarding, not as easy as it looks it hurts a lot. the three days were so much fun a nice release following the sleepless nights leading up to the bungy. the highlight of this was naturally chris, on second run down on the first day he had a complete wipeout, glasses smashed and face all cut up, as harsh as it was i couldn't stop laughing - he wasn't hurt just his dignity!!!!a more serious accident occured the following day whilst skiing off-piste when chris got severely winded in a fall - at one point i thought i was going to have to raise help!!!!!queenstown held some great as well as some lousy memories as chris lost his i-pod as well as numerous items of clothing and i had my day bag robbed from the TV room whilst drying beside a radiator!!!!!!
following our action packed week in queenstown we head back up to Auckland were we stay a few days before heading up to the bay of islands and cape reigana for the final leg of our trip. it was in the bay of islands that we had the opportunity to swim with wild bottle nosed dolphins it is a millions times better than it sounds, it was so much fun swimming beside them, them just enjoying your company - it was awesome. further up at the cape we did sand boarding the equipment used is a body board and a giant sand dune - very dangerous but great fun!!!!!!!!from the cape we headed back to Auckland for several more days and a few cheeky nights out before heading to the last leg of our world tour - SOUTH AMERICA!!!!!
