I have not been very good at writing my blog so will catch up on the past few weeks:
Fraser Island: This is the biggest sand island in the world, where i did a 3day 4x4 self drive trip and had to camp on the beach at night. This was really good and the lake on here were beautiful although very cold. I also woke up with sand caked to my face after a very uncomfortable and cold night in a tent...i don't think i am the camping type! There was a group of 9 in my 4x4 and enough drivers for me to sit back and enjoy the views. Went to Lake Wabby which has a huge sand dune that you can run down into the lake, and Lake Mckenzie with white sand and clear water...unfortunately my camera battery died after the first night..typical!
Whitsunday Islands: I did a 2day 2night sailing trip around the whitsundays islands, onboard The Condor boat which is a maxi sailing boat and has won loads of races...very impressive. The weather was on our side and we had beautiful sunshine with just enough wind to have a sail. When the boat is in full sailing mode it is on it's side and if you are not sat down or holding on you will be shark food! I did get a chance to go snorkeling a few times and this gave me my first glimpse of coral life...bit scary knowing that sharks share the same water! We did get to see some whales from the boat which was great to see and dolphins and turtles were also swimming about. There was a sighting of a hammer-head shark but luckily i didn't see it, don't think i would have got in the water if i had. Absolutely loved this trip and didn't want to get off the boat!
Great Barrier Reef: Went on a day trip to the Great Barrier Reef today. Got the chance to go to two reef sights. The first everyone had the chance to do an introductory scuba dive but unfortunately i couldn't because of my asthma...rubbish! I did go snorkeling here and spotted a sting ray, which the divers didn't see, it was far enough away from me not to turn out like steve irwin! The second sight was accessible from a small sand island and the coral was much closer to the surface so better for snorkeling. There was lots more fish and coral life here, and the fish were very colorful and some were MASSIVE! I have taken lots of pics on a underwater camera so i will upload them soon. Ended the day with a glass of bubbly for the trip back so all in all another great day!
It's my last night in australia tonight, flying to singapore tomorrow.
