The most notable thing about Rainbow Beach was probably the lack of phone signal! It made life a little difficult to say the least. But Rainbow Beach was pretty stunning. Still not sure why they called it 'Rainbow'. We had a go at backpacker pub games and the boys got way too involved in a game of beer pong. Up early we were for a trip to feed dolphins. Three wild dolphins came and as lovely as they were, I think it was the right decision to feed myself instead of them!
We made our way to Fraser Island pretty early the next day in our designated 4X4. Six people in our car, three eskis and a heap of food! Lake McKenzie was the first day. We had a group game of piggy in the middle despite the growing clouds. And back to camp to put the tents up and cook dinner on the camp stoves.
The next day was wet! Too wet for me to get in Eli Creek. And too wet even to take a good look at the famous shipwreck. However, as the rained poured on somehow it seemed a good idea to get in the Champayne Pools (so named as the waves create a bubbling effect). Waves crashing, ridiculously sharp rocks....clearly everyone but Emma, Graeme, Paul and myself had read the warning signs! Just as we were about to descend the rocks a big wave came, sending me rolling and the others falling over barnacle covered rocks. Blood poured! In fact, tears were very close to pouring! But I'm just covered in scratches with a swollen knee and foot. Paul's toe is black! Emma is struggling with wearing knickers!
On the last day on Fraser the sun shone and to Lake Wabby we went. A giant sandblow leading the way to clear waters. So beautiful! Chip butties and then back to Rainbow Beach . Loved the driving, the sand sending the car in all directions. Note to self - always check that your seat is locked in before travelling uphill over a bumpy surface. Damn scary when your seat starts moving away form you and you are left hanging off the steering wheel! Now to buy a landcruiser!
We're currently in Agnes Water, where Virginia was ready and waiting to meet us. There isn't a lot to Agnes Water either! Another pretty beach but that's it and the hostel is not deisgned for cold nights. However....Scooteroo is amazingly good fun. Three hours touring Agnes Water on a mini Harley Davidson! Now I'm thinking bike licence and Harley Davidson investment....hmmmm maybe not!! Absolutely loved it...it's in the top five experiences in Oz so far! Another thing Agnes Water has going for it....sunny days! Soon the tan will be back with interesting scar patterns!

Jane Ryan Having just read your blog (21st May) - Champayne Pools. Sounds too dangerous, you got back bruised & scratched but OK, thank God, a never to forget experience. Agnes Water sunny days plenty of sun cream sounds lovely. Scooteroo, Harley Davidsons and Landcruisers with bolted down seats not loose ones your travels sound a mixture of dangerous and then OK. Keep safe & enjoy your travels.
