Welcome to Miami!
St. Augustine - Miami
Miles travelled - 315
Exciting day today, off to Miami for some sun, sea and shifty bars. Spent the morning travelling down from St. Augustine then into Miami where the sun was shining and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. Got to Freehand Miami hostel which is just 2 minutes from the beach. Lovely place, looked more like a hotel than a hostel and the staff were very kind and attentive. Unfortunately, our rooms weren't ready when we arrived as we were a bit earlier than planned so we all raked through our bags in the lobby for our swimgear. We had 8 girls in the one tiny bathroom getting changed then it was off to the beach!
The beach had lovely white sand and the sea water was soo warm. We all went out for a swim in the sea then spent some time just chilling on the beach with some music playing. Katy went back to the hostel early about 4 then the rest of us grabbed a slice of pizza and a beer as we weren't planning on eating until 9. We all headed back to the hostel where all 8 of the girls were in the same room. It was a little cramped with 4 bunk beds but it was a lovely room and every bunkbed had 3 plug sockets each not including ones on the wall. We all showered and spent ages getting ready cuz we were all drinking and talking. We headed out and got the bus down into the middle of south beach and jumped into the first restaurant we seen that another girl had seen previously during the day. The meal was okay, if a little cold. Was awkward trying to eat with 12 people around the one table but it was nice meal altogether. We bought 5 beers for $25 as advertised, but then it was $34 including tax! not impressed, why advertise it as $25?! Afterwards we hit a little tourist shop for some souvenirs and managed to claim a tshirt which has since now shrunk in the wash (typical!)
We walked about for a bit and managed to find a dive bar which was very shifty. Ordered a vodka and it was honestly like paint stripper, undrinkable by my standards but Becca managed to drink it. We asked the guy on the door about some of the clubs and he said it was $40 to get in. We figured that was well too much to spend in one night considering we knew we had other places to go on the trip so we headed back up the road to the hostel. We got in and got a beer, sitting by the pool and text some of the other group. All the under agers were in the hostel cuz they couldn't get in anywhere but said the older girls had went to the $40 club but got in for free! By this point we were so tired we headed up to bed where some of the other girls were sleeping, so it was off to bed for the long drive to Florida keys the next day.
