For Christmas we decided that we would have a little luxury and check into a hotel. We stayed in Sanur,a resort with lovely restaurants and bars. We spent the first few days lounging by the pool then we got itchy feet so we got some foot powder and it all soon cleared up!!! On a serious note, we were getting a little restless so we hired a Jeep for a few days to explore the island. On the first day we drove round the Bukit peninsula stopping off at Jimbaran bay which was ok, then we went to Uluwatu surfers beach but we'd forgotten our boards so we had a great chicken burger instead. Next stop Padang Padang bay which was very pleasant but the water was a bit dirty. Day 2 we deciced to drive across the island to (supposedly) great beaches in Lovina. It took 3 hours through the mountains along the long and windy roads until we eventually got there. We were a little dissappointed with the beach so had some lunch instead, got talking to a guy from Brazil, he used to play proffessional football, we got his details so we now have a contact in Brazil. We decided to head back as there was a waterfall en route which we were gonna check out, unfortunately there was a tropical cyclone which added to our fun journey!!! We were quite happy to hand back the keys and get back to chilling. Forgot to mention we had our first taste of corruption. A police officer who obviously wanted some extra money for Christmas pulled us over and gave me 2 options, 1 official and 1 unofficial I took the unofficial option not that I think I had much choice in the matter and slipped him a back hander and went on our way, trying to avoid police at all costs.
Christmas was a quiet one, Dan was a bit gutted as we finally found somewhere that did a turkey dinner but they were fully booked. It turned out ok as we got it on Boxing day instead - and it was much cheaper!!!
We did another scuba dive on 28th in Sanur which was great.
New Years was a funny night, we booked tickets at a bar which was putting on a buffet, free champagne and live music til 6am. We were a little bit eager and got there at 6pm and they were still setting up so we got roped into helping. It was a good night, we started lagging at about 1:30 but then a trumpet man arrived which perked up the party so we managed to stay until 3 - not bad for us oldies!!!
The weather turned with the New Year and rainy season finally kicked in so we were pleased to leave for Australia for more fun in the sun.
Best Wishes
