Part 1 - Day 79-80 in the world of Sam and Dani: When we arrived in Hoi An we were very fed up! The bus had been the worst so far, Sam had to strap herself into her bed because she was scared that she was going to fall out. Most people wanted to go to the beach so Dani went with them whilst Sam and Henri hired scooters and went to Marble Mountains. Marble Mountains are caves which contain Buddist statues and temples. We've seen alot of temples and statues but these were definitely worth the hike up the millions of steps. At the top of the tallest mountain the view was amazing, you could see right along the coast and the effects of the typhoon could be seen. The beach by the hotels were clean but between them and the bay you could see all the debree that hadn't been cleared away yet. After we went exploring around the coast and saw some amazing scenery, not what we expected Vietnam to look like. We also took a slight detour into the centre of Da Nang where we hit rush hour, now Vietnamese rush hour is chaos! Bikes all over the place, cutting each other up. Sam thought it was brilliant, Henri wasn't convinced and wanted to escape as soon as possible.
That evening the group decided they wanted to try snake blood, which for some reason is a delicasie out here (we have no idea why). We had no intention of trying it ourselves but after seeing their faces it confirmed we made the right decision, it looked like they were going to throw up! We left Hoi An on the bus the following morning to Hue, which luckily only took 4 hours. We'd heard that there's not much to do in Hue and with the group running out of time, we decided just to stay for a few hours before getting the last overnight bus upto Hanoi.
Part 2 -Day 92-94 in the world of Sam and Dani: Originally we had decided on the overnight bus to Hoi An to meet Rob and Pete but when we woke up on the morning we were meant to leave we decided that we couldn't be bothered (yes, lazy we know) so came up with a new solution.. flying! As lazy as it sounds we booked a flight to Da Nang then got a taxi to Hoi An which was only 30km from Da Nang airport. We know we're meant to be travellers and shouldn't be spending on flights, but we have already done 3 overnight buses. When we arrived we checked into the hotel the boys said they were staying at, and we were very impressed, they had done good! For $15 a night we were in a nice hotel that included breakfast and had a swimming pool =) We went into the town to get some tea (along with our new Vietnamese friend Jack who we'd met in the airport and shared a taxi with, but who also claimed we were 'really good friends') and luckily found the boys in the first place we went to. They hadn't checked facebook to know we were coming down so were a little confused to see us.
Hoi An is famous for tailoring and most people get something made whilst visiting. The boys got suits made and were going for a fitting and wanted our approval, once again they did well. Now, we were convinced we weren't getting anything made and did really well the whole time we were in the shop, but then just as the boys were filling in their home addresses for the suits to be posted to, we decided to ask how much a dress would cost.. and that was the end of our will power! We both got maxi dresses made, Dani's is strapless whislt Sam's is a halterneck, both very nice! Because we were all excited we managed to persuade the boys into wearing their suits out that night for a nice meal so we could wear our new dresses. We all looked really good even if we do say so ourselves, the only thing that let it down was that the boys were wearing flip flops, obviously they haven't brought shoes traveling. This created alot of amusement for those who noticed =)
Our last day was spent shopping =) The boys went to Marble Mountain on mopeds whilst we did the last of our souvenir shopping on bycycles before getting it all posted home. As we were waiting for the nightbus to take us to Nha Trang the people we'd met in Hanoi arrived at the hotel so we said a quick hello and goodbye and arranged to meet up with them in Nha Trang.
