So I have finally managed to leave Cairns, Since my last post, I have been on a camper van trip up north with a german guy, and belgium guy and an aussie girl for 5 days to Port Douglas and Cape Tribulation. This is an amazing coastal drive where we stopped at all the beaches, freshwater rainforest swimming holes and walks on the way. We spent the first night in the middle of a cane field which we thought was really funny, but later realised playing cards and drinking in a boiling hot cramped van, with no way to let air in without huge mosquitos coming in, was definately an experience! We were later told that Australias most dangerous animals live in the cane fields such as the brown snake along with many others, which can actually jump up and kill you...nice. Glad we didnt know that when we went to the toilet! We survived to tell the tale! We went to Mossman Gorge, a rainforest river, and found a natural jacuzzi to swim in, and did a spot of rock hopping, and also the Daintree National park.
Once back in Cairns, I happened to win a game of crazy bingo in one of the bars, which was a day tour back up to cape tribulationa and wildife sancutuary, which was lucky becasue i wanted a little more time in cape trib anyway, so I paid to upgrade to stay over a night. I went horse riding through the rainforest and along the beach. Considering I had never ridden a horse before, we were cantering along the beach and I absolutely loved it! My horse was called Billy, he was a bit naughty but we had a little chat and bonded over a biscuit and he behaved himself. I met some awesome people up there and we had a crazy night of drinking and then a big bonfire on the beach.
I then went on a scuba intro dive trip, and had one of my best days so far, it was breathtaking being at the bottom of the ocean playing with nemo and friends. I had no problem with equalising my breathing and just had so much fun. We had an amazing instructor and I am eager to do more along the coast.
I then started my east coast trip southbound on the oz experience bus, a hop on hop off bus, with ridiculously cheesy drivers who stop off and go on random walks and show you places along the way. First stop was mission beach where we stayed at a wicked hostel with amazing pool called scottys, all of the bus crew stayed together. We ended up all becing pushed in the pool at night by the boys who worked there and had another bonfire, with boys playing guitar and eukalaly and all singing. The next day we went to Dunk Island, which is beautiful, we went fishing and snorkelling there.
Next stop was Townsville, but we took the ferry straight over to Magnetic Island, and stayed at Base Hostel, basically a resort with huts overlooking the sea, so close to the sea infact, it looked like we were on a cruise ship! But at 24$ a night, I dont think P&O could beat that! We hired barbie open top cars the next day between ten of us and went in convoy around the island which was loads of fun, we also went on a really long walk to find Koalas in the wild...however we didnt actually find any!!
That night we partied in the hostel and won lots of prizes for playing the games and dancing on the tables, including the boys entering a cross dress competition for ladies night. The next day I met some new people from Dorset, and went on ringoes, hired a hobie cat and went on the jet ski, and then played cricket on the beach, and met some crazy locals and had a dance off at night.
I am now in Airle beach and going sailing on the whitsunday Islands tomorrow, and know some people who can hopefully get me some jobs on the yachts afterwards..who knows! Untill next time..
