5-7 November 06 Vientiane
Hello everyone,
Sunday 5th Nov we arrived in the sleepiest capital city on earth- Vientiane. Luckily for us the biggest Laos festival of the year was taking place. The main symbol of Laos is Pha That Luang (see pics) which is the equivelent of the eiffful tower in Paris, the statue of liberty in New York and the radio city tower in Liverpool. Unfortunately in the night time it was all lite up with fire works going off in the back ground and the batteries in the camera had gone, it was probably the best thing we have seen so far.
All in all Vientiane is a lovely place but not much else to say.
The highlight came the following night when as we were about to get into a taxi outside our guesthouse which was taking us to the bus station for our 24 hour bus ride to Nam, the hotel manager asked us "did you's get your visa's o.k," at which point James wen't white. We were supposed to pick them up at 3pm that day before the Vietnamese Embassy shut at 4pm, it was now 5:30pm. 'No point crying over spilt milk,' I told James, although thank god, as we would not have realised it until 7am the following morning when we would have been trying to clear customs at the Vietnamese border with no visa's.
Looks like another night on the beerlao in Vientiane. Next stop, with a bit of luck Hanoi- Vietnam.
