Australia road trip part 1 and a quarter (6/4/07-18/4/07)
Hope you's can all understand the new lingo, thankfully now Sydney is in the past and we have begun our tour up the east coast of Oz. Our first move once James got home was to invest in a suitable UTE (car). After a bit of research we decided to splash out on the most reliable car in the world, a 1990 Toyota Camry, she's a real Beaut! Over here they look after there cars because of the long distances involved in everyday driving. Although she's nearly 20 years old she's in excellent condition and hopefully will be good for the 7000 mile round trip???
Before leaving Sydney we gave back our little apartment which we both really liked and then we were off up the coast stopping anywhere that we liked. The East coast is full of beautiful little towns all with stunning beaches and harbors to match. We past through all the main places such as Byron bay, Noosa (the Australian Riviera)and Brisbane to name just a few but the best was a place called Fraser Island.
Fraser Island is the world's largest Sand Island and is just off the coast, North of Brisbane. This place is world Heritage listed and it's easy to see why; it is absolutely beautiful. Although it is the world's largest sand Island it is dotted with fresh water lakes which are stunning, the water is clean enough to drink and they are a much needed place to take a swim seeing as the surrounding ocean is shark infested.
The only way to reach theses area's is with the use of off road 4x4 vehicles, basically everybody is split up into groups of eleven, given a Toyota land cruiser 4x4, four tents and enough food and booze to last for three days and then let loose on the Island.
Everyone sets up camp on the beach in the night time and has a big beach party and then by day gets lost and often stuck trying to get to one of the amazing waterfalls. When you look up at the sky at night here you can clearly see the milky way, the only other inhabitants of this island are a couple of park rangers and hundreds of wild dingoes who will steal all of the food in the middle of the night if allowed. The place is a must see.
