First Overseas Flight - Day 1
West End, British Columbia
First overseas flight - Day 1
An early start at 3 am to be at the airport just after 4 am, living on 2 hrs sleep. The first flight at 7 am from Brisbane to Sydney wasn't to bad, I forgot how loud planes were. Getting to Sydney was a breeze, Qantas provided a light breakfast which was perfect. Once there I had to go to the transfer area which means passing through a security checkpoint. After unpacking my laptop, iPad, medication and liquids. I place my bags to go through, then bam you need to take your jacket off, your scarf and your boots. My first full body scan. Then to make it better I was randomly picked for an explosives screening, while still wearing my socks. Finally get to the transfer desk, 30 minutes later I get my new boarding pass. Apparently there was a dilemma with the Air Canada system. Got out of there at 9 am, needed to be at gate 58 at 9.25. What happened to shopping. Stopped quickly to pick up some new Dior and call my dad. Off to the gate I went.
I board the plane, and I'm sitting next to a mother and a 6 year old. They promptly introduced themselves to me. So my flight is 15 hrs long. Wow. The food on Air Canada is really good, but my movie screen froze and stopped working 3 hrs into the flight. I finally got a couple of hrs sleep. When my screen froze so did my iPod.... Great I thought to myself, I can't sleep, I'm eating cause I'm bored, my iPod just died and I can't watch any movies. I end up talking to my neighbour and the little one. They both live in Canada. I had to fill out my customs form. After stuffing the first one because they write the date the other way around i tried again, Only to find out there is a $60 limit on duty free whoops. I also forgot how many days there were in a year. Thinking to myself I am getting searched at customs, I can see it already.
Woo got my iPod to work. Still have 3 hrs till we get there. Hopefully they are serving breakfast soon. Then I can start waking up and I can brush my teeth. Got breakfast, pancakes and juice. After breakfast was finished we had 45 mins left...... That felt amazing. Finally arrived at the airport, I think we walked for 10mins to get to customs. Once I cleared ... Phew we waited for our bags, than I was off to the immigration office. They issued my work visa and ignored there phone for 20 mins. Finally go though customs again and I'm out the door. I walk straight to the limo pick up and get straight into a sedan and were off.
I did not realise that the airport was in a different city. I arrive at the hostel after 30 mins, I store my luggage because I can't get to my room till 1pm. Off I go exploring, I walked to Stanley park and attempted to come back only to get lost for 3 hrs. At this point around 22 hrs without sleep, lost in a city I don't know and my map is not working for me. I eventually found my way back to Stanley park and worked it out from there. I come back, still to a room that's not ready, I wait till 1.30 pm and I go up and ask and there like oh yeah that's been ready for ages... Oh but you couldn't be bothered telling me when I have sitting in front of you for 2 hrs.
I get up to my room and the first thing I do is take a shower. At this point in time I hadn't slept for 24hrs but I knew I couldn't sleep now because I wouldn't steep tonight. So I decided to catch the sky train to the biggest shopping mall in British Columbia, metro town. So walking around there like a tourist, I brought two jackets and some new bikinis. Now I'm back and I will be going to bed in a matter of minutes. So I haven't slept for around 30hrs.
So good night and that completes day one!
