Hello everybody
Sorry bout our poor efforts with the blog entries its going to happen again.
Following up from Harvey Bay we went on a road trip up to Airlie Beach stopping off at a place called Gympie (pronounced Gimp-e) we may of found it a little funny. At Airlie Beach we got on a 60ft sailing yacht called Waltzing Matilda is was are home for the next 3days as we sailed around the Whitsunday Islands. From there we snorkelled the Great Barrier Reef and saw loads of cool fish but no Nemo!!
Our road trip back down brought us to 1770. It was raved about in the guides but all there was, was couple of houses and NO surf
Then down to Noosa, this was very up market but still a very beautifull part of the world. We hired a double kayak and danis driving was s**t. When we got out of the sea the man who gave us the thing told us there was a shark swimming around and all the surfers had to get out.
Then the sad day of handing back old Totty (the camper van) she was a fine old van even if she did leak when it rained and drank fuel faster than i drink beer!!
Then off to the airport and to Auckland.
NEW ZEALAND
Auckland was a typical city we picked up our Toyota Corona (also know as Dracula. Reg DRA 651) and headed to Rotorua. On the way Dani wanted a wee so we stopped and discovered there was an old gold mine Karangahake. There were loads of little walks to do, one which took us through a dark tunnel 1028m long through the mountain, we also got to follow the old rail tracks through the mountain walking on the track in complete darkness, they said a tourch was desireable! you could see jack crap!
We then got to Rotorua which smelt like Danis farts!! It smelt like rotting eggs from the sulphur.that night we went to the geothermal pools where you lay in a 42degree pool looking up at the stars. The next day we went to Wai-O-Tapu, a geothermal park full geysers. In the evening we went to a Moari night with a girl called Alex (Chard you would of liked her!) we practiced the Hacka which is surprisingly hard.
The next day we went to Taupo with Alex. We were going to do a sky dive (not really mums) but the weather was rubbish so we decided to do a bungy instead (no we didnt mum)
Then we traveled down to Napier stopping off at Gisbourne on the way. Napier was full of art deco buildings and had a very good mini golf course yes Dani won. We also went on a wine tasting tour. This involved going to 4 of New Zealands award winning vineyards and tasting bout 8 different wines at each, these weren't little tasting glasses we may of been a little bit merry by the end!
On our way to Wellington we stopped off at Mount Bruce wildlife park, were we got to see a couple of Kiwi's, some of the biggest eels ive ever seen, a little magpie looking bird which was very friendly if you made bird noises at him he made them back, and Kawa a big dark brown parrot looking bird one of which was called Fernley.
At Wellington we went to the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa, it was 6 levels full of stuff. Lots of Moari artifacts which was interesting, a level on earth quakes and over natural disasters. the only down side of the day was the kids running around.
