Hey, me and sarah are at Airlie beach and we love it here! Its an awesome little town, nice beaches, big lagoon overlooking the sea- bigger than the one in Cairns. Fab shopping here too!
When we got to Mission beach on monday, we walked around the Base hostel- each dorm is in a seperate little triangle hut-like building, terraces all around, rivers and tropical gardens everywhere. It was really nice. We hung out on the big terrace overhanging the sea, and had a meal and watched the massive lightning storm over the ocean- it lit up the mainland where Townsville was, and lit up the island and the hills. The really big lightning lit up the entire sky- white and purple. So cool! We hung out there for hours, chatted to some girls from our OZ bus who are staying on maggie island for a few more days. Then we went online for a bit, and went to bed- had a slightly freaky guy in our hostel, bit of a cling on bless him. In the early hours of the morn I woke up to find him going through my phone! Lucky it was charging and he couldnt see my numbers or any info I'd saved on it. He then shoved it on the floor- I went over and picked it up, and brought it to my bed. Didnt say anything. Next day he wanted to cling on and we didnt tell him our plans, only that we were heading to airlie beach soon, like everyone does after maggie island.
We checked out early in the morn and went to explore the island before we had to get the bus and ferry back to townsville to meet our OZ bus at 1pm. It was a hot, sunny day after the storm and we managed to walk 6km- along the beach to the ferry point, then up a hill and along the cliffs to Geoffray bay, which was stunning from the cliffs. We walked along the bay and then found a walking track up into the national park. We saw cookabarahs, loads of other birds- parrots etc, and then we heard a waterfall and climbed down a bit til we found it- secluded fresh water pools and a waterfall! We explored for a bit then walked all the way bk to hostel just in time to make the bus. Awesome walk.
We got on our new OZ bus (massive new coach, brand new). Same driver, Sonic, playing his awesome music again. Same essex girls though...qute a few people on the bus were annoyed with them lol.
We went through Ayr and Bowen through to Airlie beach, arrived at about 5pm. Checked into Koala backpackers, massive place, some of the buildings are a bit old. We went bk out to have a meal at Morrocos bar (with brad and josh from our hostel dorm), and then met everyone from our bus at Beaches bar for some free jugs on Goon (boxed wine, deadly stuff lol. I love it, had some at mission beach- but the headache after...). We all got drunk and chatted for hours- met dave, kym. And charlotte, brad and josh who we share a dorm with. Chatted to Sonic, and a couple of other guys- one was an NZ guy, gave us some info on traveling round NZ.
Next day, we got up at 9ish, our longest lie in yet lol. Had a brill day- went shopping, brought some Roxy pink minishorts, a billabong top, new flip flops, some bracelets and a necklace. All so cheap here!
We posted some post cards home, went to the supermarket, and then headed for the lagoon which we spent about 5 hours at! We bumped into alot of people we met last night there, hung out with brad and josh for a while. All four of us were lying the shallow bit for ages, thinking about what people in the UK would be doing. The hardest decisions we have is whether or not to have another nap in the sun, or to apply more sunscreen or not! We almost fell asleep we were chilling out so much lol.
Me and sarah went out for pizza in the evening, yummy! Went for the closest thing to a hawaiin pizza. We then carried the half of pizza we had left and did the boardwalk by night which was beautiful- some of the trees and bridges were lit up by fairy lights in patterns.
We went to sleep eventually after chatting to charlotte, brad and josh in our dorm. Tomorrow were going snorkeling round the whitsunday islands!! And then we leave early fri morn to go to a ranch in the middle of nowhere, on the edge of the outback....
