Me and sarah had a really nice, chilled out day in Christchurch- this is our favourite town in NZ! Its beautiful, its actually very english, but with better weather and cool plants and wildlife. We got up at 9, good lie in, went round some shops, got a day ticket for the old style trams that go round the town, and started at the arts centre- there was a market on, its easter sunday so loads of people about, and I found a Manaia necklace there, maori jewellery. Been looking for one for ages.
We went punting on the river avon, surrounded by cystal clear water, willow trees, black swans and the scorp and paradise ducks. It was so relaxing, sat there in the sun, going under the bridges and seeing the parkland next to the river. We almost fell asleep lol.
We went to the botanical gardens next, sat around for the afternoon next to the lily ponds and under the chestnut trees, its autumn here so all the leaves are changing, beautiful colours. It was a really warm day too. We had ice cream and sat on the grass near the kids playground bit- so many families here, watched a maori family play rugby, theyre made for it! So cool to watch.
We got the tram to victoira square and chilled there in the sun for a bit, then went shopping in the centre again, took photos of the neo-gothic and victorian buildings that they have here, and the abbey. I got a souvenir maori wooden statue, sarah got a maori box. Hoping we can fit all our stuff on the plane!
We ate really healthily all day- fruit from the supermarket, and had our own food at the hostel, and then both went online. We love our sanctuary dorm room here- we mostly have it to ourself and it has big bay windows. We have an early kiwi bus tomorrow for Kaikoura, a seaside town with dolphins and seals. Weve loved christchurch, I would definitely live here. Might come back! xx
