Hey, its march 25th, wednesday, and me, sarah and claire just had a brill day in Rotorua!
Claire met us on monday the 23rd, me and sarah went to bed late the night before that and had had a long day, and sarahs alarm didnt work again lol (i had my adaptor nicked and until I got another one I couldnt set an alarm on my phone). So anyway we got up at 8.45, and whizzed to reception to check out, and on the way down in the lift I was like 'Its ok, claires plane gets here at 9 so she wont be here til like 10, and Im sure it will work out fine, she'l meet us in reception'. And the lift doors opened and CLAIRE HAD ARRIVED! It was so funny! We booked claires kiwi experience, start tomorrow!
p.s. I cant remember if I wrote in my blog before, but on the 21st I ran straight into Suzanne, the girl I met right at the start of my trip and we hung out in singapore and then cairns in oz. I got to see her w few times round the hostel, it was the end of her trip and shes gone home now :-( bless her she didnt want to leave. Im going to be like that. Wonder if I could get a visa and stay...I have stuff to look forward to at home though and want to catch up with friends n family, but I am so coming back. Prob for life. Ive seen so many places where I could live....
Anyhow, me, sarah and claire had a crazy chatting session and checked in (I had now been in 3 different dorms while at base in auckland lol, a different one each night- you get vouchers when you check in though LOL). We went round the town and browsed some shops, and then we headed via the unversity to the domain, where we all went round the museum for hours. You could spend days there, its a maze and the building is enormous. One level 1 we saw some freaky stories about museum stories (like the doll that was used to collect evil from peoples houses, and is supposed to be destroyed after but was kept and is stored at the museum, not on display normally). And loads of freaky stuffed animals.
On the next floor they have a natural area- you can look at different ages in hsitory, dinosaurs, giant Moa birds that used to walk around NZ! There were tonnes of bird specimens too, so many birds in NZ theyre amazing- enough to keep me and sarah trying to learn them for the rest of our trip lol. And we went in the volcano bit where you can sit in a livingroom with a big screen, and it simulates a volcanic eruption. Your watching the news and theyre talking about the risk of it happening in auckland (52 volcanoes in auckland, prob wont happen in our lifetime though!). And then you look at the screen (like a patio window) and you see it erupt, and the building shakes and tremors, and then you watch the eruption and the lights go out etc. Not enough to scare you but its good fun.
We also saw the war memorials on the top floor, and went in the holocaust room, which is not for the fainthearted and it was really educational (gave details of the nazi experiments).
We went to the cafe then sat in the domain parkland in the sun. We chatted for hours and then headed back. Me and sarah had laundry to do- 3rd time on the trip so far though, were like handwashing experts now lol. I caught up with my blog a bit, and ten we all sat looking at NZ maps and planning where we wanted to go.
The next morning is where it all began....we got our big and green Kiwi experience coach early in the morn (of course, when else?) and we met our driver, woman who we know as Fly. She took us to mount eden, dormant volcano with super views of all of auckland. Then we went to parnell, posh suburb of auckland, for a stop at the kiwi office to get our tickets for the trip and guides, and then we headed out of Auckland!
