Maybe it is stating the obvious but mainland China is totally different to Hong Kong. For a start the traffic is chaos and crossing the road is fairly hazardous. I've seen hundreds of types of food I didn't even know existed, and even eaten a few... My chopstick ability hasn't improved as much as I'd hoped but I'm not starving yet.
Will keep this a short one but the tour of China has been really good so far. A few things I've been up to include cycling through the scenery in the picture above in Yangshuo, learning how to cook chinese, on a boat down the Yantgze River and going through the lock system on the Three Gorges Dam (the town planners amongst you would probably appreciate that - an amazing feat of engineering) and seeing the sights in the historic capital of Xi-an.
Amazing though this country is, I have learnt a few other things about it including the fact that the toilets are pretty grim. But the people are on the whole incredibly helpful and friendly. Been on a few sleeper trains and while they are not exactly luxurious they are pretty efficient. I've had a few minor problems, such as the zip on my jacket breaking and managing to either lose or break 4 (four) different padlocks. But I did manage to pick up a new Northface/goretex jacket for about twenty pounds - if its a fake then its a very good one. Everyone else on the tour is really sound as well so all good on that front.
As expected not been able to get onto FB so not able to keep in touch with people that way but still picking up emails fine. I hope all is still well in the UK. The weather has been cold here but actually getting warmer today. I hear Liverpool lost the other day, nevermind there's always the mighty Europa League to concentrate on...Thats all for now, speak soon...
