It's been a hectic conclusion to my time in the Solomon Islands and as best laid plans will go astray, I didn't have time to write a lot about my last few weeks and I guess it's a peotic twist that this last write of my time in the Islands is being penned across the world on a train in Vietnam, but that's another story…
Ahh the Solomons, what an experience it was and nothing will match the send off. A simple bbq with the work crew and other faces from my time on placement pulled at the heart strings and had all the quirks I have cometo expect. There were fights, laughs, tears and drinks flowing but this time I was the reason for the event. People now knew this was it and by the end of the day I was swamped in all manner of kastom gifts and completely humbled.
I won't lie, I choked up a couple of times and had to flick on the sunnies. I will miss the place and the guys a lot and hope they go on to do good things. Though I will go see them graduate next year, I know things will never be the same.
After the bbq ,I got ready to get everything through customs and with gifts including shell, wood, turtleshell I was worried but I needn't have been, everything got through. So with that and another tear jerking farewell at the airport with the entire crew waving me off across the tarmac my Solomons adventure was over and I guess so is this story.
As always kids, the best stories are safe in my head for in person, remind me to tell you about the illegal shark fin trade, unexpected romance and hightailing it out of my accommodation as a result, haha awell with one chapter ending another begins. The only constant in life is change.
