Hey guys,
Been in New Zealand coming up a week now, flew into Auckland and only spent a day there (its just a fairly std city) before moving onto the bay of islands which I've now been staying in for 5 days and will be until sunday.
Its nice to stay somewhere for enough time to really settle in there and I couldn't have asked for a much nicer or chilled out place to do so. Been busy as ever tho:
I've Made a close group of 7 cool friends (Rich,Leanne,Kelly,Alex,El and Tess) and spent the last 4 days just hanging, doing most of the stuff togethor and quickly lowering the tone of the jokes to the level of the lowest person (that would be Rich). Unfortunately most of these guys have less time in new zealand than me and have moved on today so now its just me and Rich, but we're looking to continuing travelling around togethor for a while which is cool. We're staying in a hostel which is practically on the beach, the water is warm and I think I must have been for a swim every day.
Spent a day going around the top area of the north island above bay of islands including going through a forest of ancient kauri trees, boarding down a massive sand dune which was loads of fun and visiting cape rienga a sacred place for the maori where they travel when they die.
There's hundereds of islands in the bay of islands, which means loads of isloated islands and beaches, its also really sunny and therefore really easy to get burnt tho I'm not doing too badly on that front. Spent a day doing a boat cruise around the islands here, including spending a while dropped off on our own gorgeous island/beach and best of all dolphin watching. I couldnt believe how close they got literally swimming right in front of the boat so i got some amazing sights of these, unfortunately they had babies with them so we weren't allowed to swim with them, I'll have another go at this some time later. Also spent some time kayaking around the islands and having the inevitable splashing/capsizing wars.
Now just started yesterday doing my PADI scuba diving course, which was really enjoyable and that was just the first day in the pool so I'm really looking forward to my sea dives which start friday. Theres a reasonable sized book to study and also an exam at the end so Its almost like I'm back at uni, only in a much nicer place for some revising :).
Thanks to everyone for keeping sending me messages:
