Hey guys! So I haven´t had too much time to write but today I came into Otavalo alone to run errands so I can relax and take my time. This past week it has been raining like crazy! I love it though, except no one here likes to go out and play in the rain. I guess the risk of getting sick here is much higher when nutrition isn´t as good, and it´s colder, but it´s sad when I´m trying to get the kids to go play soccer, I mean futbol, and they just want to stay inside and play cards.
Brad and Jane left last Wednesday, which was really sad. They are two of the coolest people I have ever met and maybe my favorite couple ever. We had a lot of fun while we were volunteering together, and now I´m the only volunteer there and it´s a little lonely. It helps that I speak Spanish well and that I am somewhat Hispanic myself, because I fit in with them and I feel comfortable there, but I just wish I had more people around my age to play with. I miss taco tuesdays!!! And I miss a lot of the foods from home. But I´m getting used to being here. Here, breakfast and dinner are like snacks or small meals, while lunch is the equivalent of like three meals. So when I come in for lunch I´ll get a soup or stew, and by the time I´m finishing that I´ll be pretty full. Then, I´ll get a plate that is piled with rice, potatoes, beans, lentils, and some kind of meat. They will also offer me a banana, avocado, or other additional foods. I think they´re learning that I can´t eat as much as them, because my portions have been shrinking, haha. It´s good though, because I will eat until my stomach hurts so that I´m not being rude, but I still end up throwing away a lot of food.
I´m almost done painting the house, and this morning there was a minga to plant trees along the path to the bus stop and then to help put a roof on the new house. It´s so cool to see the house almost done. There are some pictures from that, and as soon as Brad and Jane post their guinea pig eating pictures I´ll steal them so everyone can see what I ate.
In a week it will be Semana Santa, Easter week, and apparently here everyone gets the whole week off from school and work! So I will get to do some travelling then, we might go to the coast or somewhere else, depending on what the family decides. Anyway friends, I hope to hear from you soon! I miss you guys and taco tuesdays, friday´s after work, and tons of other things. I can´t wait to come home and play!!!
