Dan and Lu's Travels
We were again awoken by the shouts of Darren (aka doughboy - he's huge - Dan's name for him) who runs the hostel. You're never really sure whether he's angry or just has a very loud voice. He's been lovely to us though - he calls me ma'am!
Went to the end of the street to Dizzy's Cafe and had fried chicken, potato and macaroni cheese with bread pudding after - so stodgy but yummy!
Went to Cats Miaow later, we'd said to Jim we'd have a drink with him tonight. He really looked like the Texas cowboy; jeans, shirt and big hat. He was tipping the staff like crazy and bought the house a round again.
Dan and I later went to Sing, Sing. We sat at the bar listening to the music and watching an old black guy dance. He was dressed immaculately; suit, silk tie and hankerchief, white hat and pale shoes - really daper. He danced so well.
He came over to us and said we were a good looking couple. He's the kind of bloke you want to meet in N'Awlins (as the locals call it). Dan complimented him on his tie and he took it off, with the hanky and said he wanted Dan to have it. He said that he wanted Dan to wear it if we ever got married!!! We spoke to him for a while and I danced with him to Laissez Les Bons Temps Rouler (Let The Good Times Roll - the tag line of the city), he took me right out onto the street.......
Before he left he gave us his address and said he wanted an invitation to the wedding and that he would sing - no idea whether he can sing or not but he looks the part.....!
No idea what time we got back as there are no clocks in New Orleans...
