Dan and Lu's Travels
Spent the day, from 8am to 5pm, travelling from Saigon, across the Moc Bai / Bavet border to Pnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia.
It was so hot. The border crossing wasn't that arduous (I can imagine some are) but it still took 2 hours.
We got dropped at King's Guesthouse, which is in the book, and bargained a room for $4/night. It's boring, but clean and cheap!
Had a wander and found the best bar we've been to since coming away. Its called Elsewhere. LP describes it as an oasis and it is. The bar is the open-up bottom floor of a French colonial house, set in its own gardens, with lights and lanterns and a plunge pool! It whad low wooden furniture with cushions and there are fans everywhere, so you feel like you can stay there forever, especially with their happy hour cocktail menu...
First impressions of Cambodia are that its much poorer than Vietnam. The roads are terrible and the houses, on stitls in the countryside are in very bad repair. cattle are everywhere too, on the roads and in fields, roaming freely.
We saw a ridiculously overloaded truck full of pigs, with a guy standing above them poking them with sticks until they bled. It was disgusting.
On our way back from the bar we stopped at a stall and sat down to eat a delicious meal of rice with peppers, garlic, chilli and beef.
Got lost looking for hotel.....
