Dan and Lu's Travels
Matt arrange for us to go on jet skis for an hour on the lake,so we drove down to the channel about 3pm. He gave us a few pointers and we strapped life jackets and got on. Dan drove at first and got used to it a bit then speeded up so we were both screaming and laughing. It's amazing! There weren't that many boats or jet skis out on the lake but when we turned to go round the island and down there were a few more, and when you get caught in a speedboat's wake you fly upwards! We swopped over and I drove and scared Dan (although he will now deny shouting at me to slow down!). Got back to the house and packed quickly, waited for Matt then went down to Laura's local, Desert Martini - which I thought was a brilliant name for a bar -it conjures up images of a very camp, stylish cocktail place. In actual fact its a very American bar with neon and pool table everywhere! We then set off for San Diego in Malc's big GMC people carrier thing- lots of space and good a/c! After we crossed the border with California there is a security checkpoint place, as its so close to the Mexican border and especially recently they've stepped up security. Its pretty scary; when you pull up there are huge flood lights beaming into the car! Due to everyone's budget we had booked one room for all of us, two double beds and room for the travel cot, so that left us with one extra person to sneak in..... We pulled up to the Best Western and saw that the lobby was small and there was a clerk and a security guard there. We panicked a bit about how we would get past them.In the end Madisson came through for us. Dan and I went first followed by Matt, Laura, Nic and Mad, who fell over right on cue which prompted a comment from the guard about difficults ages etc ..... so they didn't even notice there was 6 people, nice one Mad! Matt went back down to move the car later and said there was no one at all in the lobby, but he could hear voices of the clerk and security guard together in a bathroom!!!! they obviously had other things on their mind....
