After breakfast we caught the shuttle back to the airport and went and collected our home for the next five weeks. We had to watch a little dvd that showed us how to use the van and how to set up the bed, where to find the engine if necessary (which was located under the passenger seat inside the cab!)and other slightly tedious procedures. After two hours we were finally away and we drove down the road back to Hamilton. The van was a nice drive, not too heavy and not too slow off the mark at lights or roundabouts. It was only a hi-top vehicle so we didn't have to worry too much about it tipping over and it wasn't any bigger than a transit van, which we have both driven numerous times before.
That evening was just a quiet one spent at home with Stu and Tracy in front of a dvd, which was lovely. It was nice to spend a night in with friends and do something normal and take a little break from doing any sightseeing. When it came to leave on Monday morning we would be raring to go!
Saturday brought yet more rain to Hamilton so we all went to the pub (which was managed by an ex All black player) for lunch and had a lazy afternoon before we went to the rugby. Thankfully the rain had passed by and we watched the game in dry conditions. This was my first proper rugby game in a stadium, having been numerous times to watch the Leeds under 18 team play in a playing field. I knew some of the rules but was very rusty (it is quite a while since I was under 18!) so Tracy and Becky had fun and games trying to teach me. It was a good game and the home side won, which was great because they had been on poor form recently. It was at this game that they turned their luck around and Waikato went on to the final, where they sadly lost. I got really in to it by the end and whenever we saw them playing on the TV I would stop to check the score and watch a little!
After the match we walked back to the house (just five minutes away) and dumped all our wet weather and warm gear and hit the town to see what Hamilton had to offer. Becky left after a couple as she was driving but the rest of us had a fantastic evening. We started off in the casino, which was great fun! If you ever go yourself take a couple of ex croupiers with you, they tell you what to do and you win! We all had a turn on Blackjack and we all won our chips back and some more apart from Becky.
We took our winnings which bought a couple of drinks and found a fairly lively bar where a live band was playing. We stayed a while until the clubs were open and put our dancing shoes on again (including Stuart), for the second time that week and went to a club where another live band were playing. This one played rock and sang some Metallica, Pearl Jam, Iron Maiden and Rage Against The Machine. It was a really good night and I think I ended up with whiplash the next day, too much headbanging and swinging my hair around!
Sunday was spent doing chores, I helped Tracy clean the house (like a good little guest) and Dan assisted Stu in the lawn mowing. Afterwards we went and got groceries and we bought everything we needed for the van and it was another quiet evening with a dvd and early to bed.
