Day 29 was the start of the Rockies tour and we were all up before 7am. Most of us grabbed breakfast before meeting our new tour guide John. We quickly learned that it was a tour guide trait to be a bit scatty as John drove off without locking the luggage cupboard on the back of the bus. Luckily we felt a bag fell off straight away so we noticed and stopped! We went back into downtown to reluctantly pick up the newbies (hooray - we were now part of the gang!) Luckily we were allowed to go and get coffee whilst the newbies were signing forms etc. I say lucky because Zoe realised she'd left her purse in Jericho (a woman after my own heart!) and we were able to go and collect it before leaving the city for a week.
Who can guess where we stopped first? Yep, that's right, at a waterfall! This was a particular beautiful one though, it was the same height as the previous one we saw (60m) but this one had a smaller volume of water trickling over more rocks, whereas Brandywine Falls had a huge gush of water pouring over a rock lip and plunging down into the river. Bridal Veil Falls was much more subtle and radiant (and so suited it's name). Dan and I and a couple of others climbed a virtually vertical bank to get better pictures, which became a theme throughout the rest of the tour - keep reading!
The rest of the day was pretty much spent on the bus travelling around 450k's. We had lunch at Kawkaw Lake, which was very beautiful and peaceful and we got to know a couple of newbies, most noticeable Izzy from London (hurrah, a true Brit!) We stopped a couple of times in services for coffee and restrooms etc but we didn't do any further sightseeing other than from our seats. There had been a forest fire the week before so the atmosphere was very hazy with smoke.
We eventually got to Shuswap Lake where we were staying a night and ate in the local pub. Afterwards a few of us went down to the lake to have an after dinner swim, which was lovely. The water was quite warm and I made the most of it enjoying a small swim whilst the others messed about (I too joined in eventually!) We walked back to the pub and got into the hot tub which was lovely but a mating ground for the mozzies, and a bit too hot so I left the lads to it after a while, who were drinking beer, and went and used the pub communal computer (which had Windows 98) and spent half an hour opening hotmail, typing a five sentence email to Mum and pressing send!
Everyone was relatively early to bed as we had another long day's drive ahead of us.
