We arrived in Hanoi late on sunday afternoon and decided to go for a wander into the town, we quickly realised that everything that we'd ever been taught about crossing roads was to be thrown away, and that you just had to step out into the road no matter what is coming towards you, and walk slowly, and the cars/scooters will see you, and will avoid you, they just wont slow down! this takes a lot more courage than first thought, and we just stood at the edge of the pavement like rabbits in the headlights until a friendly local saw our obvious distress and crossed us over like old biddies!!!
later we went to a small bar near our hotel, and the friendly barman who spoke english spoke to us and another guy from london for quite a while whilst we watched the man u-city match. while we were sat talking, we saw the bar's dog look both ways, cross the road slowly, go to the toilet, and cross back again. we felt like right idiots for having to be helped across earlier!
the following day we walked to the mueums, but found that they were all shut on mondays and fridays!
