CBD Maryborough, Fraser Coast, Queensland
The kids were good to have breakfast, shower and change bright and early this morning. By 8.30am we were already at the Information centre in town. We got a very pleasant surprise with the Bookfest at the town hall. Added to my collection of Bryce Courtenay books while Vidal got a Lemony Snickett book - not to read but to use as a case for his iPhone! Kim got the Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Ravel got a footy joke book.
At 9 am we went for a free guided walking tour through the historic CBD. The tour guide, Geoff Negus, was dressed in 19th century costume and related interesting information about historical events that shaped Maryborough: George Ambrose White who bequeathed 20 000 pounds to build the town hall, the devastating floods of 1887 and 1974, how the Mary River was used to forge trade links with Brisbane, the arsonist who destroyed historic buildings etc.
We then browsed through three levels of galleries at Art Space. Liked Jackie Brennan's exhibition titled Art Deco Revival the best.
Walked through the streets of the CBD in search of an eating place. The kids enjoyed browsing through a specialist lolly store. Asked them to earnsome good behavior points to earn to purchase the delightful confectionary.
Eventually settled on an excellent Chinese restaurant Bellygood where we had honey chicken and seafood fried rice and nasi goreng. Yum!
Back at the motel(Arkana) the kids continued with their Angry Birds UNO game which they seem to be addicted to. Quite a refreshing change from their electronics. I took the car for a quick electronic chech-up at the Honda dealer down the road and used the opportunity while waiting to visit a delightful antique store, The Inconvenience Store. Purchased an antique teaching aid for teaching fractions. Thankfully, the car passed its test!
Ravel and Kim relaxed at the motel pool, Vidal napped and watched a movie on the iPad while Mum updated her travel blog.
