So let's see where I left off. I believe I was writing about how in Florence we went to Santa Croce. After that we went around the town in through Piazza della Republica and went to lunch with our group of 50 people. I guess the profs had previously reserved the most part of a restaurant, so we all crammed in with hungry stomachs. I sat in a big table of all cal poly pomona kids and the two davis students and chatted with them. It was a four course meal with pasta, chicken in gravy, FRENCH FRIES (it was a first), and ice cream (not gelato) with hot fudge unlike anything I've ever tasted before-- amazing. We also got water and huge bottles of wine so I had 2 glasses (to prevent an effect) of alcohol. We didn't pay that day so we figure it was part of the fee we originally paid a few months ago that includes field trip stuff.
After lunch we walked along the river to the bus station and drove to Via Gamboria but turned back because the bus was too big to fit on the narrow road. So we went to the boboli gardens to walk around. After that we drove back to school, had dinner, and had gesture drawing class from 8:30-10.
Thursday not much happened so I'll kind of skip it. Just the usual class and I walked the site again with one of the CP Pomona kids. We didn't have class after dinner, so we went out to Roggi's cause they had free appetizers and drinks for us Santa Chiara students to welcome us. I had some wine there and then a pack of us went to the Garden Underground to hang out for a while. It was a lot of fun and we met more Texas people that we hadn't really talked to before.
We had friday off of school, so Sam, Joey, Claudia, and I took the train to Florence again to see Liz, Kate, Heidi, and Lindsey (who is studying in Norway but took a trip to Florence before school starts for her). We did a lot of walking around that day. I mean, here we walk a lot but most of it's uphill and short distances of about 15 or 20 minutes. In Florence it's flat but we walked miles and miles running errands with the girls, seeing their apartment and school, seeing the inside of the duomo, eating lunch, etc. It was good to see people we haven't seen all summer and catching up.
We left after dinner and took the train back, walked up the hill to our school, and got to bed around 11.
Saturday the 8th (yesterday) was pretty relaxing. We walked to the grocery store which was about 40 minutes away where I bought juice, oranges, and some other random snack and breakfast items.
During the day Claudia and I went shopping where she bought a nice skirt and nail polish. We pretty much just emailed people and hung out during the day. After dinner we went to a free concert in the town hall and listened to some Jazz music that didn't sound that Jazzy.
Then we (Claudia, Sam, Joey, and Adam -- a CP Pomona kid -- and I) headed to our room to watch a movie. We got to bed around 1 am.
Today we woke up at 10:30 again, ate fruit for breakfast although I couldn't get my juice open because it wasn't a twist top and none of us has a bottle opener. Then we walked the site again cause Claudia and Sam wanted to, so it was my third time. I went along for the exercise and it took about an hour and 15 minutes. We walked directly over to the Garden for lunch where I ordered Pesto Pasta. After lunch we came back, emailed a bunch, did some crunches in our room, watercolored in the lab, emailed more, and here we are. Claudia's downstairs calling Tom on the pay phone and Sam's changing her profile picture.
Now that I am caught up, I can address some other questions I have received.
Mom said it sounds like we aren't getting a healthy breakfast, but that pastry was only for the field trip day. Normally breakfast start at 7:30 and you can choice 2 of something. They have yogurt, juice, cereal, coffee, cereal bars, fruit, etc. So normally I get cereal and juice. Breakfast is only served weekdays and not wednesday because that's our field trip day.
Lunch is served from 12:30-1:30 and includes pasta, a meat, sometimes a salad, and fruit for dessert. It is only served weekdays.
Dinner is served from 7:30-8:30 and is served every day of the week.
Dinner's in 10 minutes, so got to go! Love ya'll (as the Texans say)
