Hi guys, how are you all doing?
Returned from our Bali trip yesterday it was absolutely gorgeous, we spent five days here for our little bit of bargain luxury!
We checked in at Perth airport at around 06:00 and we were a tad concerned as the lady at the check in desk said that we would need a paper copy for our visas or we wouldnt be able to return back into Australia!! Fortunately Luke came to the rescue and faxed it to our hotel in Bali so we could come back! After that little scare we boarded the plane and arrived in Denpasar at about 12:30. It was around 30 degrees and ever so close, very humid!
We were at the hotel by 1pm and straight in that pool! Shell was desperate to get in the sun so she could get as black as the ace of spades. We booked a few trips in the afternoon to white water rafting, a tour of Bali and the elephant safari park. We also sorted a nights full body massage at the Anika spa which consisted of: foot massage, foot bath, full body massage, facial, exfoliating body scrub, body mask, flower bath and to finish off traditional balinese tea all for the lovely price of 20 quid!!
We got up early the next morning for our white water rafting experience, we set off at about 07:30 to the Ayung river. After climbing down 300 steps to the bottom of the valley and holding onto Shell who was soooo scared we set off on our way downstream. The scenery was amazing all the way down it was like going through a tropical rainforest with waterfalls an everything (see the pics). Luckily the raft never overturned and Shell ended up having a real good time.
After the rafting we had lunch and then headed off on our tour of Bali. Bali is actually a lot bigger than we thought it was and to do a tour of the whole island would have taken about 3 or 4 days so we did a tour of the western side of the island to see the royal family temple, the, monkey forest and then Tanah Lot. The temple was being prepared for the annual Hindu celebrations which is basically their sort of christmas time. Apparently menstruating women are not allowed in the temple as they are considered "dirty" by the Balinese people and their god, which Dan thought was very amusing!
The monkey forest was basically a real life version of King Louies temple from the Jungle Book, with monkeys running riot everywhere and fruit bats flying overhead - not Shells idea of good fun! We left the monkey forest and continued west to Tanah Lot. Tanah Lot is a temple built centuries ago by foreign settlers, it is about 20m from the shore (when the tide is in) and can only be accessed by devout Hindus - obviously we weren't allowed in despite trying our best to blend in with holy rice on our foreheads and flowers in our hair!
The following day we made the trip to the elephant safari park. This is the most famous elephant park in the world and we thought if it was good enough for the likes of david beckham, steve irwin and dolf lundgren.(the russian out of rocky 4) then it was good enough for us! ha ha. First we had a 30min ride on an elephant around the park which was brilliant then we got to feed the elephants and have loads of pics taken with them. After we had some lunch some of the elephants put on abit of a show for us playing football and doing tricks.
We were back by 2pm so time for abit more sunbathing around the pool.
On our last day we went in to Kuta, which is the main resort, in the morning for a few hours to do some shopping. Everything was so cheap here Dan got himself some O'neil bathers which cost about 7-8 quid. We also got a load of dvds as they were only $1.50 for the latest films. Bargain! Then we got a taxi back to our hotel for our last bit of sunbathing before our flight back to perth in the morning.
This was one of the nicest places we have ever been to the people are so friendly so just cant do enough for you. They even thanked us for coming to their country as their only income is from tourism, and since the bombings happened last year not many people have been going.
keep the messages coming speak to you all soon lots of love Michelle and Dan xxxxxxxxxxxx
