So our last destination..... Boo!!!!
Started with a slight hangover and a boat trip, neither good. But after a while I was feelin better. The bus trip we connected to (purely by accident as we were still assuming the 'winging it' philosophy) darted well with ice-cream, but rapidly went wrong. It was the wobbliest journey going, and the held didn't help. What you nay not know, folks, is that while I have eaten my weight in ice-cream while traveling one-and-a-half-times around the world, I really shouldn't eat it at all. Ya see, it makes me ill! Usually I can 'eat thru the pain' as Mo sez, and keep it under control, but today I couldn't. Halfway thru the last episode of Greys Anatomy (brilliant!) I had to ask Kim for a bag. Essentially, all I managed to do was ingest said helado, liquify it in a disturbingly-recognisable mix of White vanilla and chocolate brown, and re-distribute it into the bag. Thankfully there were no leaks! I dumped it at border control, but still, the last bus journey, lasting only 3hrs, was more traumatic than all the full-day plus trips we've been on. Thankfully the bus was pretty empty.
Anyways, on arrival in Singapore we turned to see a very familiar logo; Holiday Inn. Seeing as our last time in such an establishment was so successful, it felt like fate to end our trip there. That, and the fact we were still inducting me into the 'release control and "wing it"' fraternity. Unfortunately however, we were hit with the reality of slumming it for so long. After passing the valet parking and entering the lobby we were suddenly very aware how out of place we were!
Drawing mental straws, and me being the man, it was up to me to approach the desk and embarrassingly ask the room rate, knowing full well if you had to ask, you can't come in.
This was the plushest Holiday in EVER! And the £175/night rate was testimony. Making out thanks and retreating to the door we were headed off by what seemed to be another helpful employee either wanting to take our bas or give us direction. But no, it wasn't security, it was the manager. And he wanted a chat. After discussing the rate above our new dorm comfort zone he made us a deal. After asking us about our flight etc he reduced the rate, gave us all day to check out so we could leave our bags and wash up before our late flight AND threw in breakfast! Either it was a slow week or he felt sorry for the two hobos!
Anywho, after seeing the room we were wavering on leaving for the planned night safari, but that was well and truly put paid to when we had Ferrero Rocher delivered and Kim's favourite - Robin Hood Prince of Thieves, was on the massive flat-screen telly. We managed a short trip to the shopping street and McDonalds for a quick dinner (Kim was still a bit hungover) before making our way back for a few drinks and then the decadence of the room. Well, we needed to get our moneys' worth!
That was the plan. After 5mins of Obama's address to Parliament and the House of Lords I was transfixed. Kim was asleep. I continued to watch, drinking water to help the previous boak, but undoing it while eating m&m's in bed! Great!
A sleepless night, a late breakfast and we were out to conduct Damo's whistle-stop tour of Singapore. We managed to pack in pretty-much all the main bits - a Singapore Sling in it's place of birth, the long bar at Raffles (Kim was mucho-amused (my fluent grasp of the Spanish language since Maddy left! - Sorry, had to squeeze it in one last time!) that you could throw the cases of ur peanuts on the floor), the business district that I was obviously enamoured with, and some sights you would see in F1 later in Sept. Quick spell in the best China Town yet for some last-minute pressure and that was us. A trip to the hotel (which turned out to be one of the decisions of the trip - I can't believe I'm comin round to 'winging it'!) for a shower and here we are. Singapore airport writing my last account of what has been an amazing (and amazingly fast) trip around the world. Kim has just wrote to Caggie for her new work address so we can get keys tomorrow and I've just discovered the guy (my fav this season) won American Idol. So our cheeky request for a free upgrade was declined, but I'm sure it will be a great journey, it certainly one we've been looking forward to for a long time, we just hope you feel the same.
