I did the hop on / hop off bus tour of Paris in the morning. I was a good way to decide what I wanted to go back and invest more time into later. When I got back to the hotel in the afternoon I had an email from Fawn, our tour guide from the walking tour; she was meeting a few friends at Paris-Plage which is a 'faux' beach that they set up every year at on the bank of the Seine. They have music and restaurants and beach chairs and tents, etc.
So I met up with Fawn (she's also American married to a Frenchman), her husband, Gwendolyn, her fiance and Amy (another American) who is from Dallas and is finishing up her degree at Stanford and has spent the last year in France in an internship. Fawn and Amy both speak excellent French. Fawn is a part time actress. So is her brother back in the States. Her brother is the "grapes" in the Fruit of the Loom Ads. Really! And he is also the Black guy in the WaMu (Washington Mutual) commercials - I know everybody in AZ has seen those commercials. She told us that he always says 'his is the house that underwear built'. Small world, eh? So we sat in beach chairs drank wine and rum punch along the bank of the Seine. Had dinner in beach chairs, watched the sunset, then the night cruises that go down the river.
Interesting people, great conversation, good ole folks from the hometown-or as close as you get here. Very nice evening, but we had to run so I didn't miss the last train.
You may have noticed that I am always afraid that I am going to miss the last train back to my hotel. I don't even know what time the last train leaves. Maybe that's why I'm always worried about it.
