Hoi An 22nd- 25th May A great place for Shopping yay!
So we made it to Hoi An to be greeted by local reps of different hotels trying to get you to stay with them. It seemed an easy option so we gave it a go and checked out this hotel that they recommended. We asked the other guests on arrival if it was good and they told us yes. We shared a room the 3 of us and everything seemed good.
In the afternoon Carol and I went shopping and left Dai drinking beer with another girl called Raj plus Kayleigh and Helen who we met on the Ha long bay tour. As we were eating in the tailors sister's restaurant we got a great discount on clothes. We both had lots of items made and it was top fun choosing material and styles…we were in heaven! Clothes to fit, just as we liked. The girls in the shop were a total laugh and totally sucked us in.
That evening we had arranged to meet up with Charlotte who we had met in Laos and her friend plus the Canadian girls we had met up with in Sapa. We found a cheap restaurant to eat where coincidently bumped into Steve and Andy from Chiang Mai. We all arranged to meet at the dive bar which was very expensive so headed to the sun bar (another recommendation).
It was great catching up with everyone and had a total blast. Unfortunately the idiot Canadians and Americans who were also on our boat showed up and Dai's face was a picture. Anyway we all had a laugh, danced a lot and moved from bar to bar mainly by motor taxi. We got back to the guesthouse around 4am had a relaxing game of cards (not sure why) then caught some zzz's.
7am we were rudely awoken by builders in our guesthouse gutting a room. I don't mean small waves of banging I mean full on electric drills and sledge hammers. Not the best way to be woken up after a drinking session. It took a while to sink in what was happening but in 20minutes or so Dai was up and finding another GH for us. We all packed quickly and checked out into another GH around the corner for the same price. We went back to bed for a few hours.
We had arranged to meet everyone at the beach at around 1pm. When we arrived (it was a short bicycle ride away) we couldn't see anyone there. Andy and Steve turned up so we spent the afternoon with them. Dai went to find the others but no luck. On our way out Silvi and Jill we getting their bikes…they had been there all along. We also had a message from Charlotte to say they couldn't see us at the beach! Oh well.
That evening we went to the same restaurant for food and then the usual places to drink. At the Aussie bar (run by Vietnamese) the boys were sat outside whilst carol and I stayed at the bar talking to the Vietnamese bar staff. We had a great laugh and we bonded with the women. We had 241 cocktails all night plus free shots. Carol introduced to the owner a "baby Guinness shot" which is Kahlua and baileys or tia maria and baileys. The drink was free flowing for us both! The owner offered us both work for the following night to get more westerners into the bar which involved going on a back of a motorcycle promoting the bar and in return free drinks and $10. This sounded fun! We left there pretty late!
The next day we cycled to another beach and caught some rays. It's the best way to cure a hangover. We went back to the tailor shop in the afternoon for fittings…quite a few adjustments needed to be made with our playsuits and dresses. The bar only had one bike so I left the hard work for Carol. Dai and I picked up westerners on our way to the bar and Carol had done an excellent job and the bar was full. We all had free drinks all night. There was an Israelan guy who wanted to play pool for money or beer. We wasn't interested in this but he said he would just pay the winner out of Dai and I. He was extremely sexist and said to Dai that would be you then. Cheeky sod. It turns out Dai has taught me too well and I happened to beat him so his face when I said I was playing him was a picture!! The bar by this point was full. I felt extremely under pressure but he came across as such an arrogant idiot everyone wanted me to win he he. He was a good player but I kept tucking him up (great teaching off my lovely boyfriend) and he was getting so peed off at this and was making himself look a complete twat! It got down to the black ball and I bloody potted it but the white after. Anyway I showed him up and he soon left!! Free drinks all night…messy! I feel I took full advantage of this and Dai had a job at getting me home because I didn't want to leave a party. It was another late but cheap night. I love meeting cool people..Tracy and Kieron from Ireland especially. I wish I had the chance to get to know them longer as they were only on a short term travel schedule.
The following day we checked out and hung around our hotel waiting for the night bus to Nha Trang. We had to pick up the rest of our "tailored clothes" which luckily fitted perfectly (until I start overeating again). My foot had healed somewhat…I think the dancing helped!
I must say on the note of Hoi An it was fab meeting up with friends we had made on the way. It's crazy how you bump into each other again.
