Danny's Summer '06 Study Abroad
We went into Zurich this morning and it was cold and rainy. After getting wet and being cold we warmed up in a café and after eating Brotwursts and headed out to see some stuff. We first went inside Grossmunster church, which was very different because it had an isolated, raised pulpit and a big organ upstairs across the pulpit. Downstairs there was a crypt w/ a tomb. Then we walked along the mile long shopping strip and went into a 3 story toy store. The kids had these booklets that had spaces for stickers of soccer players from every country. It was chaotic, kids trading cards w/ other kids & their parents getting all into it too. We walked to the end and found an expensive hotel w/ some sweet cars (2 Rolls Royce's and a Bentley), by the way there's BMW's and Mercedes all over. We walked along the lake and by now the sun came up so we could see the snow-capped Alps across the lake. We found a church up on a hill (much like Sacre-Coeur) and went inside. Again the same layout as Grossmunster, but no one was inside so we walked up the stairs to the pulpit and found a door leading to a stairwell that went up the bell tower. On the top of the bell tower were 3 people doing a bible study I think, and they were very polite to us. They said that the church usually wasn't open to public so we were only able to get in b/c they were up there. We got some amazing shots from up there and found another door leading to the dome that centered over the church. Inside was a lady painting a picture looking out over the landscape. That's pretty much the highlight of today. Tomorrow we drive another 7 hrs to Venice.
