THURSDAY Had a very early start to be at the Carolina First Centre for the opening ceremonies and got there just in time. Drove to Myrtle Beach first thing this morning and found it much like the Gold Coast in Qld but without as many high rise buildings. The beach was clean and very tidy considering the number of people on summer holiday there and all the accommodation looked full up. We stopped and took some photos on the beach and then walked out onto pier where there were dozens of people fishing - quite successfully too by what was in their buckets.                 ...

Made the short trip from Charlotte to Greenville in an hour or so - stopped at the big BMW car plant just past Spartanburg to see if we could do a tour and once again were disappointed to find the place closed for the summer holiday until next week! This morning we set out in good time and drove over to the famous Daytona Beach where the raceway originated. You can still drive onto the beach and motor slowly to a spot by yourself.
