Jeeez I hate that !!!
I just spent ages writing this entry and uploading photo's on the slowest internet connection on the planet, only to wipe the entire entry with a single misplaced key stroke.... Damn that peeves me off!!
Last time I travelled with the boys, we used a site called "TravelPod". Unfortunately TP is now defunct and this site is the nearest I could find, but I'm not enjoying the experience anywhere near as much as TP. It seems cumbersome...
Anywho, on with the story.
Still functioning on Perth time, we were up at the crack of dawn. I fluffed around with some work stuff while Lauren headed off to the gym, eventually leaving the hotel about 8.00am.
Our hotel is in the London Docklands area, about 30 minutes by train from the city center.
With Lauren cuious about the Prime meridian in Greenwich, we headed off to the Royal Observatory. Arriving at 9.00am, we were greeted with large steel gates and a "10.00am opening" sign...
Undeterred, we strolled the gardens of Greenwich Park and the 400 year old "Queens House", a significant architectual building from the 1600's, before grabbing breakfast from a local cafe and finally headng back up to the Observatory about 10.30am.
Always impressed by the work of the engineers and scientists of years gone by, we spent a couple of hours wandering around telescopes and time pieces built hundreds of years ago.
Deciding to check out the Londo Eye, we headed back to Westminster station. Stolling across the Westminster Bridge, we snapped some obligatory shots of Big Ben and the Houses of Parliment. One local commenting, in his 40 years in London, he had never seen the full Houses of Parliment without scaffolding around some part of it..
Arriving at the Eye, we were confronted with long queues for tickets and even longer queues to board. One of the down sides to travelling in peak season I guess. We decided to book tickets for the next morning, along with a visit to Madame Tussauds.
Heading home for a nana nap for a couple of hours before heading out to meet Rae, Toni and Pete (Rae's Daughter and her Fiance) around 7.00 for dinner at Wahaca Mexican at Southbank. Delicious way to round off a full day !
Gosh darn it! (No, they are not the actual words uttered from my mouth)..
Three times I have written the next entry, and three times for one reason or another, this freakin site has either deleted the entry, or not saved it... Damn frustrating! I realise it is probably operator error, but in 2017, you would think they might have thought of "auto save".... I've decided to tack the next days outings onto this entry because the site has also added the photos to the same album. Plus I've decided I'll do the drafting off site, then copy and paste here...
Having booked ourselves on the Eye for 10.15am, we headed off about 9.00am as we had been warned our section of the light rail system was down for servicing. Following breakfast at a local diner on the Southbank we joined the hundred or so other punters ready to view the city. It is still a fantastic view, although you can't see the Gherkin any longer as there is another tower in the way…
Back onto the tube at Westminster, we headed to Baker street and Madame Tessauds wax museum. I didn't realise, but the original Madame Tessaud lived through the French Revolution, narrowly missing Madame Guillotine herself.. Reputedly, she sorted through the decapitated heads looking for notable figures on which to base her moulds…. Icky !
We had a bit of a giggle posing with stars and political characters before enjoying a 4D Marvel Super Hero show in the London Planetarium and heading off to Piccadilly Circus for lunch. But not before finding a very stylish Sherlock Holmes hat ! Nyuck nyuck nyuck….
