It's amazing how quickly things become not fresh; the older I get, the more sieve-like my memory is! Tamara's coming to pick me up in an hour and I still need to get showered and dressed, but let's see how much I can get out with my morning coffee.
Wednesday, wow that feels like a long time ago now, I made my way to Leicester Square. I grabbed some lunch and sat in the square watching the world rush around. At that point I immediately regretted not having a map. I started my aimless traipse around and whenever something seemed interesting, I stopped to look at it. I stumbled into a big open area with beautiful buildings, statues, a view of Big Ben and a big blue c*** (which given the surroundings seemed quite out of place…though I'm not sure where a giant indigo chicken would belong). Tamara later informed me that I had found Trafalgar Square. I headed back to Ladbroke for snack time- the best time. A combination of berries and bananas with double cream was on for today- yum!!!
Tamara and I went up to North London to play with my new twin cousins and Katie, their mommy. It was a part of London I hadn't seen before and had a distinctly suburban feel to it. The twins were mellow and sweet and Katie was holding up very well for a woman raising two three-month old boys. Remind me not to have twins; I'm not that kind of super-woman. I took myself to the theatre for the evening, spent some time poking around the Covent Garden area, and not realizing that there was no escalator at the Covent Garden tube station, got my exercise with the 196 steps up to the surface.
Yesterday, we went to East London (I'm really getting around this trip). We went to Spitalfield market (pronounced spittle- which no one else seemed to find amusing but me), and walked around Brick Lane. Much like Parkdale, the area has changed so much. It's shifted from being dodgy and rundown to being a trendy, hipster haven, filled with quirky stores and curry shops.
Next, I headed up to Oxford Circus to do a little shopping- Muji and Uniqlo, hurray! Yes, I come to London to shop in Japanese stores. I figure I have to cross an ocean either way, and the rest is semantics. Apparently I have the same reaction to Oxford Circus as I do to Times Square. I punchy and immediately want to start kicking people. So back home to decompress with some more cream and then back to North London for dinner with Lyle and Katie. This time Bruce and Julia took me via Abbey Rd. and I got to see the famous studio and crossing. I lament not having the chance to call my friends to get online for the Abbey Rd camera, so I could wave at them while doing my best George Harrison impression, but there's always next time!
Anyways, my coffee is done and time is running out, so I better go throw some clothes on. Two more days, then back to reality
